Symantec Strengthens Commitment To Protecting Small Businesses From Internet Threats And Security Risks

Free Internet Security Educational Tools for Small Businesses Now Available

CUPERTINO, Calif. - April 27, 2005 - Symantec Corp., the global leader in information security, today announced its continued commitment to defending small businesses from Internet threats and security risks through the availability of free educational tools and the upcoming release of Symantec AntiVirus 10.0 and Symantec Client Security 3.0 Business Packs.

"As small businesses grow and expand their implementation of technology - from wireless networks to virtual private networks (VPNs) - the need to secure their computers from today's complex Internet threats and security risks increases in importance," said Enrique Salem, senior vice president, network and gateway solutions, Symantec Corp. "Small businesses can trust the breadth of solutions we offer to provide them with comprehensive protection, and they can also look to Symantec now and in the future for the tools they need to become more knowledgeable about securing their critical digital assets."

To help small businesses better understand online security and the variety of solutions available to them, Symantec has launched the following free educational tools:

  • Symantec's Small Business Security Guide CD-ROM - Symantec's "Security Essentials for Your Small Business" CD-ROM features an interactive guide that helps small businesses understand their exposure to online threats and risks, assesses the potential impact of a security breach, and evaluates security options. Copies can also be picked up at the Small Business Administration (SBA) Expo, Hilton Washington Hotel, Washington D.C., booths 500-502, on April 28, 2005.
  • Symantec's Small Business Security Book - Tailored to address the needs of small businesses, Symantec's "IT Security for Small Businesses" provides an overview of the various technologies small businesses implement, the threats and risks their systems may be exposed to, the types of security solutions they can turn to, and helpful security checklists.
  • Monthly Small Business Webcast - Symantec launches its first monthly webcast for small businesses on May 18, 2005, with a session titled "Securing Your Business Network."

Symantec also strengthens its portfolio of solutions for small businesses with the upcoming launch of Symantec Client Security 3.0 and Symantec AntiVirus 10.0 Business Packs, which will detect and remove spyware, as well as provide integrated tools to repair damage caused by these risks. Symantec Client Security 3.0 Business Packs will provide robust desktop and server protection, centralized management, and ease of administration through its simplified management of integrated antivirus, firewall, and intrusion prevention technologies. Symantec AntiVirus 10.0 Business Packs will provide automatic defense and response against spyware, viruses and worms, in addition to scalable centralized management and response capabilities that maximize uptime and minimize costs.

"The Association of Small Business Development Centers is dedicated to the sound development of small businesses throughout America. We are finding more and more that technology and online security are important factors to the growth and success of small businesses," said Donald Wilson, president and CEO, Association of Small Business Development Centers (ASBDC). "The ASBDC is pleased to see the addition of Symantec's educational tools and solutions to the arsenal of much needed Internet security resources available to small businesses."
