Latest release adds support for Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions and SQL Server 2005 databases to enhance the resiliency of Windows and help lower the total cost of storage management.
Orlando, Florida - TechEd 2005 - June 6, 2005 - VERITAS Software Corporation (Nasdaq: VRTS) today announced the release of VERITAS Storage Foundation High Availability (HA) for Windows version 4.3, the only integrated stack of storage management, replication and clustering software available today for Microsoft Windows environments. Extending the company's decade long partnership with Microsoft Corporation, VERITAS Storage Foundation HA for Windows provides continuous availability while improving the performance and manageability of mission-critical Windows-based systems, applications and databases. Additionally, enterprises will be able to take advantage of the latest release of VERITAS i3 application service management software for Microsoft SQL Server 2005, the industry's first offering designed to optimize the performance and service levels of SQL Server 2005 (see related press release, issued today).
"Corrections Corporation of America manages more than 60 correctional facilities and we must ensure that critical data on more 62,000 inmates is protected and highly available to our staff. As we continue to utilize Windows systems and leverage datacenter virtualization, VERITAS Storage Foundation for Windows is critical in helping us deliver continuous availability of our growing data volumes," said Brad Wood, senior director of enterprise operations for Corrections Corporation of America, the nation's largest provider of jail, detention and corrections services to governmental agencies and the founder of the private corrections industry. "With the latest release, VERITAS continues to support our changing IT business requirements and help us ensure data availability while simplifying storage management and reducing data center costs while continuing to allow me to commoditize the data center."
"With a technology relationship with VERITAS of more than 10 years, Microsoft is pleased to continue to work with VERITAS to provide solutions our joint customers need for their IT infrastructure needs," said Tom Rizzo, director of SQL Server at Microsoft.
Providing Local Availability to Disaster Recovery VERITAS Storage Foundation HA for Windows is the only solution for the Windows platform that scales from local availability to wide area disaster recovery. In local environments, the advantages include cost savings driven by more flexible architecture and hardware support and higher availability due to a product design that has no single point of failure. For enterprises requiring continuous operations in the face of a disaster, VERITAS Storage Foundation HA for Windows enables replication to a remote site, without the severe limitations of today's alternative offerings.
Managing the Growth of Data Enterprise storage requirements are growing exponentially and strain the native Windows tools' ability to cope with that growth. VERITAS Storage Foundation HA for Windows provides advanced volume management capabilities for HA and SAN-attached Windows environments. Users can manage and grow data online and migrate data between storage arrays, without the need to reboot systems or bring down applications. In SAN environments, storage can easily be shared across storage arrays, enabling fast recovery of excess capacity and unleashing the performance of the network. Expanding the industry's broadest array support, version 4.3 adds full support utilizing Microsoft's multipath I/O driver architecture for Hitachi TagmaStore USP models 100, 600 & 1000, HP SureStore E Disk Array XP12000 and IBM TotalStorage DS8000.
The Industry's Broadest Operating System and Application Support Version 4.3 supports Microsoft Windows Server 2003 for x64 for Itanium-based Systems (Intel Itanium) as well as Windows Server 2003 x64 Extended Systems (AMD Opteron and Intel Xeon) operating systems. In addition, the 4.3 release includes support for SQL Server 2005. VERITAS offers enterprises the broadest choice and flexibility in selecting the systems and applications that most closely meet their specific IT needs.
"Microsoft's push into the enterprise has created a need to ensure the Windows Server System environment achieves the highest levels of availability, manageability and performance. This trend will accelerate with the adoption of Windows-based 64-bit systems and databases such as SQL Server 2005," said Robert Soderbery, vice president, Storage & Server Management Group, VERITAS. "As enterprises move to leverage the flexibility and cost effectiveness of the Windows Server System environment, the release of VERITAS Storage Foundation HA for Windows 4.3 provides the infrastructure they require to elevate Windows in the datacenter."
Availability and Pricing VERITAS Storage Foundation High Availability (HA) for Windows 4.3 software is scheduled to be generally available in July 2005. Pricing for VERITAS Storage Foundation for Windows starts at USD $695 per server.
