VERITAS Software Maintains Lead in Backup and Archive, File System Software Markets

VERITAS remains leading independent supplier of storage software.
VERITAS Software Corporation (Nasdaq: VRTS) announced today that it maintained its position as the world’s No. 1 supplier of backup/archiving and file system software through the first quarter of 2005, according to the latest IDC Worldwide Quarterly Storage Software Tracker. Customers around the world continue to select VERITAS Software to protect, recover, manage and archive their data, which is underscored by the latest market share results released by IDC. VERITAS has maintained its leadership position in the backup and archive storage software market for ten consecutive quarters with 41.6 percent revenue share, compared to 13.5 percent for its nearest competitor (EMC) for the first quarter of 2005.
The report from IDC also presented VERITAS' historical leadership in the file system software market, where VERITAS Software commands 36.6 percent revenue share. In addition, VERITAS continues to see increased adoption of its storage resource management (SRM) and replication software, two market segments also reflected in the latest IDC report.
"IDC's report confirms the reliance and confidence our customers place in VERITAS to help ensure their data is well protected and effectively managed so they can continue to achieve their business goals," said Mark Bregman, chief technology officer, VERITAS Software. "Our continued growth is fueled by our ability to offer customers of all sizes an assortment of heterogeneous software solutions to reduce costs and complexity and mitigate risk."
As in quarters past, VERITAS Software held the highest overall storage software market share of any non-hardware based company in the IDC study.
