CUPERTINO, Calif. - July 5, 2005 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced the 10 directors who will serve on the company's board of directors following the completed merger with VERITAS. The new board, comprised predominately of independent directors, will be eligible for re-election at the company's 2005 annual stockholders' meeting.
John W. Thompson will remain as chairman of the board of directors as well as chief executive officer. Gary Bloom, formerly VERITAS CEO, will serve as vice chairman and co-president.
Michael Brown, who joined the VERITAS board in 2003, is a former chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Quantum Corporation, a provider of data back-up solutions.
William (Bill) Coleman has served on the Symantec board since January 2003. He is currently the founder, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Cassatt Corporation, an enterprise software and services company. Coleman founded and was the first chairman and CEO of BEA Systems. Coleman has more than 30 years of high-technology industry experienced focused in software development.
Appointed to the Symantec board of directors in April 2003, David Mahoney is the former co-CEO of McKesson HBOC, Inc. and CEO of iMcKesson LLC, a healthcare services and information technology company. Prior to that, he was a principal with McKinsey & Company.
Robert S. Miller was appointed to the Symantec board in September 1994. He was recently appointed the chairman and chief executive officer of Delphi Corp., a world leader in mobile electronics and transportation components and systems technology. Miller was formerly chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Bethlehem Steel.
George Reyes joined Symantec's board of directors in July 2000. He is currently the chief financial officer at Google. He has also served as vice president and treasurer of Sun Microsystems, Inc.
David Roux has served on the VERITAS board of directors since 2002. He is co-founder and managing director of Silver Lake Partners, a private equity firm. Prior to that, he held various management positions with Oracle Corp., including executive vice president of corporate development.
A member of the Symantec board since March 2000, Daniel H. Schulman is currently the chief executive officer of Virgin Mobile USA, a cellular phone service provider. He previously served as president and chief executive officer of priceline.com, as well as president of AT&T Consumer Markets Division of AT&T Corp.
Paul Unruh has been a member of the VERITAS board of directors since 2003. He is the former chief financial officer and vice chairman of the Bechtel Group, Inc. He served in many senior financial positions during his 25-year tenure with the company.
