Gateway Incorporates Symantec's Norton Internet Security 2005 into Consumer Desktop and Notebook PCs

CUPERTINO, Calif. - August 3, 2005 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced that its Norton Internet Security 2005 solution will be preinstalled on new Gateway and eMachines consumer desktop and notebook PCs. Through the new arrangement, customers will receive a 90-day complimentary subscription to Symantec's protection updates. Once the subscription expires, users have the option to purchase a 12-month renewal.

Previously, Gateway preinstalled Norton AntiVirus on its Gateway and eMachines consumer desktop and notebooks PCs to protect consumers from viruses and worms. By now transitioning to Norton Internet Security 2005, Gateway will offer additional benefits to its customers. This package includes Norton AntiSpam, which filters out unwanted email and helps protect users from email fraud, and the award-winning Norton Personal Firewall, which provides a comprehensive firewall, program control and ad blocking. Additionally, Norton Parental Control blocks access to inappropriate Web sites and newsgroups, while Norton Privacy Control prevents personal information from being sent out without the user's knowledge while allowing the user to communicate freely with trusted sites. Gateway users will continue receiving all the benefits of Norton AntiVirus, the world's most trusted antivirus solution, which provides automatic protection against viruses, worms, and Trojan horses.

"Providing Norton Internet Security 2005 cements our growing relationship with Gateway," said Matthew Moynahan, vice president, consumer products and solutions, for Symantec. "We will continue to provide unmatched Internet security protection for Gateway's customers."

"Norton Internet Security 2005 is a key component of the Gateway Internet Security Shield, which we offer with Gateway consumer PCs," said Jade Zhou, director of strategic alliances, Gateway, Inc. "We view protection against viruses, worms, Trojan horses, spam and other threats to be an absolute necessity for our customers."
