CUPERTINO, Calif. - Nov. 28, 2005 - Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC) today announced the immediate availability of VERITAS Enterprise Vault Compliance Accelerator 6.0 which enables financial services companies to quickly perform cost-effective supervisory review of email and other electronic communications, helping ensure compliance with SEC and NASD regulations requiring active supervision of electronic messaging systems. Compliance Accelerator 6.0, a highly-configurable add-on to VERITAS Enterprise Vault 6.0 email and content archiving software, now from Symantec, provides broker-dealers with a tool for enterprise-scale review of email, instant messages, Bloomberg and digital fax messages.
"Enterprise Vault Compliance Accelerator 6.0 is the result of working very closely with several of our largest financial services customers to ensure that we are providing a tool they can deploy globally," said Jeremy Burton, senior vice president, Symantec Corp. "We know making supervisory review work in large scale, demanding environments is very complex because reviewers need review to be fast, easy and almost invisible. We have worked to make deploying Enterprise Vault Compliance Accelerator more practical for our enterprise customers."
One of the nation's largest full-service securities firms, with approximately 1,700 financial consultants and $117 billion in assets under management, played a key role in the development of Compliance Accelerator 6.0. The firm must comply with SEC Rule 17a-4 and NASD 3010 and 3110, which require U.S.-based brokerages to retain emails in a secure, highly-available repository and demonstrate active supervision of electronic messaging traffic.
The firm, which has used Enterprise Vault and Enterprise Vault Discovery Accelerator since April 2003 to securely archive the Microsoft Exchange mailboxes of its 5,000 employees across 140 locations, has implemented Compliance Accelerator 6.0 to sample a minimum of ten percent of its 1,700 broker's mailboxes on a daily basis to comply with NASD requirements. Compliance Accelerator has reduced the sampling and review process by 50 percent while enabling the firm to demonstrate full compliance with NASD regulations.
"The increased demand for discovery of historical email messages, operational problems introduced by the growing size of email data stores, and the compliance requirements to retain email messages are business drivers for deployment of a solution now," said Carolyn DiCenzo, Research Vice President, Gartner Inc. "Companies that capture all email into an archive will be able to respond quickly to legal or corporate discovery requests."
Enterprise Vault Compliance Accelerator 6.0 includes a new pre-fetching feature and database optimizations, which allows messages to be quickly displayed, even in a larger environment working with slower back-end storage devices. The new Web-farm support capability enables customers to deploy multiple servers for enhanced speed and resiliency, and a new ad-hoc investigative tool permits reviewers to look further into potentially suspicious items and perform secondary searches.
Enterprise Vault Compliance Accelerator 6.0 supports a broad range of storage platforms, including hardware from EMC, IBM, Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP), Plasmon and StorageTek.
Deploying Compliance Accelerator with NetApp(r) storage systems and SnapLock compliance software helps protect broker-dealers' business and legal interests through robust WORM (write once, read many) storage capabilities.
"NetApp and VERITAS Enterprise Vault Compliance Accelerator 6.0 help businesses with information retention, compliance, and discovery, which are increasingly important as government regulations regarding data continue to proliferate," said Patrick Rogers, vice president of Products and Partners at Network Appliance. "Our joint solution helps address compliance for those regulations head-on while also reducing the cost and complexity of traditional archiving solutions."
VERITAS Enterprise Vault Compliance Accelerator 6.0, now from Symantec, is an add-on to the base Enterprise Vault email and content archiving software, and pricing is based on a per user basis.
