Symantec CTO Describes Strategy for Assuring Data Security and Availability; Recognizes Federal, State, and Local Government Customers' Visionary Use of Symantec SoftwareWASHINGTON, DC, Jul 11, 2006 -- Symantec Vision Government 2006 -- Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC) executive vice president and chief technology officer, Dr. Ajei Gopal, will today open the company's annual public sector user conference, Symantec Vision Government 2006, by highlighting the company's strategy to provide the comprehensive protection necessary for today's government enterprises tasked with keeping digital infrastructures up and running without sacrificing access to critical information. Gopal's keynote remarks, titled "The Future of Comprehensive Protection," will take place at 8:30 a.m. ET in the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C.

Symantec 2006 Government Visionary Awards
At Vision Government 2006, Symantec will present a select group of
U.S. government customers with Symantec Government Visionary Awards,
recognizing their innovative use of Symantec software products and
services to streamline, integrate, and secure their data operations
while improving the delivery of service to citizens. Award winners
include the Environmental Protection Agency; Georgia's Fulton County;
NCI, Inc.; the State of Michigan; and Virginia's Arlington County.
Award Recipients' Roundtable Discussion
At 2:10 p.m. ET, Teresa Bozelli, chief operating officer and managing
director of Government Insights, an IDC company, will moderate a
roundtable discussion featuring Symantec's 2006 Government Visionary
Award recipients. Participants will discuss current IT security,
compliance, and continuity challenges in the public sector community
and share firsthand perspective on strategies for effective planning
and risk management with the audience.
