Symantec Solutions Win Readers’ Choice Awards

Symantec Ghost Solution Suite Earns Third Consecutive Win and Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition Repeats as Windows IT Pro 2006 Award Winners

CUPERTINO, Calif. – Sept. 6, 2006 – Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced that Symantec Ghost Solution Suite and Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition have earned the 2006 Readers’ Choice Award from Windows IT Pro magazine. Symantec Ghost Solution Suite won for the third year in a row in the Disk Imaging Software category; Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition won for the second time in the AntiVirus/File Server or Client category.

“Today’s IT professionals face a growing range of challenges in managing and maintaining PCs and servers in a distributed enterprise environment,” said Jeremy Burton, group president, Security and Data Management Group, Symantec. “We are honored that Windows IT Pro readers prefer Symantec’s PC and server solutions when they think about requirements around ease-of-use, integrated functionality, adaptability and security depth.”

“The 2006 Windows IT Pro Readers’ Choice Awards continue our tradition of honoring products that our readers tell us are most worthy of recognition,” said Kim Paulsen, Group Publisher of Penton Media’s Windows IT Pro. “These are the hardware, software, and services that measure up where it counts most—in the businesses, agencies, and institutions that rely on them to deliver what they promise.”

For the third year in a row, Symantec Ghost Solution Suite was named one of Windows IT Pro Readers’ Choice Awards top picks for disk imaging software. Symantec Ghost Solution Suite comprises Symantec Ghost—last year’s Windows IT Pro Readers’ Choice Award winner—as well as Symantec Client Migration and the DeployCenter Library imaging technology. Windows IT Pro editors describe Symantec Ghost Solution Suite as an essential toolset that provides administrators an easy, fast and cost-effective way to create OS, application, and user settings images. The administrator uses these images to quickly migrate to or deploy new operating systems, restore PCs (including user settings, data, and user profiles) after a system crash or failure, install application upgrades, and deploy new systems—all from a central management console. Multi-cast file transfer provides the ability to deploy individual files to multiple recipients simultaneously and GDisk, Ghost’s disk-wiping function, enables secure disposal of decommissioned devices that conforms to U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) standards. Hardware and software inventory additionally allows for more effective management of image and software deployments.

As the world’s most trusted enterprise antivirus solution, Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition provides automatic defense and response against spyware, viruses, and worms. Scalable centralized management and response capabilities maximize uptime and minimize costs, while providing customers with the ultimate control and protection for desktop and network servers. Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition also won the Windows IT Pro Readers’ Choice Award in 2003.

Windows IT Pro readers were asked to vote on their product preferences in 12 broad technology categories. More than 5,200 readers chose the best among more than 750 products and services.

“The IT pros who voted in this year’s awards are tough, in-the-trenches critics,” Paulsen continued. “They demand solid value and performance from the products they use and put those products to the test day after day. Readers’ Choice Award winners can feel proud that the products and services they develop have earned the respect and recognition of the IT world’s most knowledgeable and exacting professionals.”

In addition to Symantec Antivirus and Ghost Solution Suite, Symantec has a broad portfolio of market-leading products designed to protect and optimize Windows environments. These affordable solutions ensure that small and mid-sized organizations, as well as large enterprises, keep their information assets secure and available.
