Clearwell Systems Receives Positive Rating in Leading Analyst Firm’s Marketscope Report for e-Discovery

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.—December 19, 2007—Clearwell Systems, Inc., a pioneer in Intelligent E-Discovery, today announced the Clearwell E-Discovery Platform® has earned a “Positive” rating in Gartner, Inc.’s, first MarketScope for E-Discovery and Litigation Support Vendors .  The explosive growth in electronically stored information coupled with the amended Federal Rules of Civil Procedure has dramatically increased e-discovery costs for enterprises today. The report, authored by Gartner research VP Debra Logan, states, “Courts are requiring enterprises to improve their handling of information during litigation, thus the consequent spending on electronic discovery software, technology and technology services is growing swiftly.”

The Clearwell E-Discovery Platform is an easy-to-install appliance, which is up and running in enterprise environments in less than 30 minutes, a clear advantage to organizations that are under time-pressure to get data processed for litigation and investigatory purposes. Clearwell enables users to quickly cull-down datasets to only the relevant results by eliminating duplicates, weeding out unrelated messages, removing false positives and identifying privileged data. It significantly reduces the amount of data that needs to be sent to e-discovery service providers and reviewed by outside counsel, saving considerable amounts of time and money on each case. Furthermore, Clearwell’s ability to analyze gigabytes of data in hours versus weeks enables the company to dramatically accelerate early case assessments.

“Enterprises purchasing e-discovery software can reduce the costs of litigation by improving their control over unstructured content, including e-mail,” Logan said. “Also, they can cut costs and risks by taking control of litigation hold, litigation-hold tracking, file collection, file processing and legal review instead of outsourcing these functions.”

“In my opinion, this report provides a helpful guide to enterprises perplexed and burdened by the costs and complexity of e-discovery,” said Kamal Shah, VP of marketing at Clearwell Systems. “I believe the report also validates that enterprises are dramatically reducing litigation costs by embracing best-of-breed e-discovery products such as the Clearwell E-Discovery Platform. Using an automated solution, our enterprise customers have dramatically reduced processing and review costs—by up to 80 percent—expedited early case assessment and gained control of e-discovery.”

According to Gartner, a vendor with a Positive rating “Demonstrates strength in specific areas, but execution in one or more areas may still be developing or inconsistent with other areas of performance.  Customers should continue planned investments.  Potential customers should consider this vendor a viable choice for strategic or tactical investments, while planning for known limitations.”
