Symantec Provides Data Loss Prevention to Companies Across Major Industries

CUPERTINO, Calif. – Sept. 30, 2008 – Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced that companies across a wide range of industries and geographies have selected Vontu Data Loss Prevention (DLP) from Symantec. Organizations in healthcare, education and energy have chosen Symantec to protect their customer and employee data, confidential documentation and intellectual property. Marking increased demand of DLP on a global scale, Symantec also secured new data loss prevention customers in the Asia Pacific/Japan and European/Middle East regions.

“Awareness of the value of data loss prevention is rapidly expanding around the world because the number of data breaches continues to rise rapidly,” said Charlotte Dunlap, senior analyst with Enterprise Strategy Group. “Increasingly, global enterprises are concerned about the loss of revenue due to the loss of intellectual property. Symantec is responding to those concerns through its Data Loss Prevention solutions."

“The loss of sensitive corporate or customer data represents a significant risk for every company in every industry, everywhere around the globe,” said Michael Wolfe, vice president, Data Loss Prevention Solutions, Symantec. “Symantec’s continued customer momentum demonstrates the value of DLP in securing confidential data across endpoint, network and storage systems—enabling market leaders to stay competitive and reduce risk throughout their global enterprise.”

Global DLP Momentum Increases Following Acquisition

Symantec helps organizations prevent the loss of confidential or proprietary information wherever it is stored or being used and enables businesses to find and protect exposed confidential data across the entire enterprise. Since acquiring Vontu in November 2007, Symantec has worked to bring the two companies’ people and products together, while aggressively spreading the word about the importance of protecting a company’s most important asset—its confidential information.
