VeriSign Wins Key Deal with Leading Consumer Internet Bank in China - ICBC

VeriSign® Extended Validation SSL Certificates chosen to protect customers using ICBC's award-winning Internet banking Web site from online threats

18 August, 2009 - VeriSign, Inc. (NASDAQ: VRSN), the trusted provider of Internet infrastructure services for the networked world, today announced that it has been selected by leading Chinese bank ICBC to provide Extended Validation SSL (EV SSL) Certificates for the protection of customers using its award-winning Internet banking Web site from online threats. The deal was facilitated by VeriSign's Platinum reseller partner iTrusChina.

ICBC provides banking services to 190 million personal and 3.1 million corporate clients. Winning the Highest Trusted Brand Award in 2009 for banks in Mainland China by Reader's Digest, ICBC has an important reputation to uphold. Whether a customer feels safe or not on its Internet banking Web site plays a crucial role in how its services are used and how enjoyable their experience is.

"We are always reviewing new ways to improve the security of our Internet banking services. Maintaining high levels of trust and encouraging more customers to adopt Internet banking is important to us," said a spokesperson from ICBC. "VeriSign EV SSL Certificates provide a much easier way for our customers to recognise the stringent levels of security we have in place, which in turn helps us maintain their trust."

ICBC's Internet banking customers will now be able to see immediate visual cues generated by VeriSign EV SSL Certificates. The address bar turns green and a new field displays to the right of the URL in the browser. This field contains the name of the organisation that owns the site as well as the security provider that issued the certificate, such as VeriSign.

"This is a great win for us in China as more banking and financial institutions in the region recognise the value that EV SSL provides over standard SSL Certificates," said Armando Dacal, director of Authentication, VeriSign Asia Pacific. "The visual approach offers Internet users greater reassurance about the legitimacy of Web sites and enables them to transact online with confidence."

As the most respected and trusted SSL authority on the Web, VeriSign is the EV SSL Certificate provider of choice for more than 10,000 Internet domain names, representing 74 percent of the entire EV SSL Certificate market worldwide (1). In fact, more than 95 percent of the Fortune 500 and 96 of the world's 100 largest SSL-using banks secure their sites with SSL Certificates sold by VeriSign (2).
