Symantec Honored for Service Excellence in Mission Critical Support – Software

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – December 17, 2009 – Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced it has been honored with a 2009 STAR Award for Service Excellence from the Technology Services Industry Association (TSIA), the services industry’s largest association. Symantec received the STAR Award for Service Excellence in Mission Critical Support – Software.

“Maintaining high availability, security and performance is critical for Symantec enterprise customers,” said David Hare, vice president, Enterprise Support Services at Symantec. “This award validates our commitment to service excellence in securing and managing the information-driven enterprises of Symantec customers. We are honored to receive this recognition by TSIA and our peers in the industry.”

The Service Excellence in Mission Critical Support – Software category recognizes organizations for providing technical support in mission-critical environments where “system up-time” is imperative, typically for enterprise customers. Symantec Enterprise Support Services was selected for delivering exceptional customer support responsiveness, integrated product supportability, and proactive support services to keep Symantec enterprise customers up and running 24/7. The comprehensive proactive support services and in-depth expertise of advanced level support engineers from Symantec Business Critical Services differentiated Symantec in the industry.

“Support services for mission-critical software are a vital component of a successful IT risk management program for any organization,” said Elaina Stergiades, senior research analyst, Software Support Services, IDC. “Companies look to seasoned and committed service professionals utilizing advanced tools and utilities to deliver comprehensive support, keeping their IT infrastructure fully functional and running smoothly so they can consistently deliver for their customers, partners, and employees.”

“The STAR Awards are recognized throughout the industry as one of the highest honors for service and support organizations,” said Stephen Smith, CFO and CIO for TSIA. “This award acknowledges that Symantec has been honored by its peers for providing world-class support as one of the best in the business.”

Symantec was presented with the STAR Award for Service Excellence at the Technology Services World (TSW) conference in Las Vegas. TSW is the preeminent source of learning and peer networking in the services industry and is hosted by TSIA, newly formed from the recently announced merger of AFSMI, SSPA, and TPSA, the three leading professional associations of the services and support industry.

Since its inception in 1990, the prestigious STAR Awards recognize technology companies who display exceptional leadership, innovation, and commitment in service excellence.
