Clearwell Systems Surpasses Major Milestone In Japanese Market

Japanese Enterprise and Law Firm Customers Now Fully Utilizing Clearwell’s End–to–End E–Discovery Capabilities

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — September 7, 2010 — Clearwell Systems, Inc., a leader in intelligent e–discovery, today announced that enterprise and law firm customers throughout the Japanese market are now taking advantage of Clearwell’s end–to–end e–discovery capabilities. Fully operational in production environments since early 2008, the Clearwell E–Discovery Platform was initially utilized in Japan primarily as a robust processing engine and early case assessment (ECA) solution. Today, Japanese enterprise and law firm customers have expanded their use of the Clearwell solution to now include the Review and Production Module on all their e–discovery matters. As a result, these enterprises and law firms have been able to significantly lower the cost and risk of e–discovery.

Japanese customers continue to select Clearwell for the product’s battle–tested technologies, with features that provide critical capabilities such as robust support for double–byte and Japanese encodings. In addition, the Clearwell E–Discovery Platform provides case flexibility necessary for cross–border e–discovery cases typically faced by Japanese customers, where litigation often demands multi–jurisdictional support and requires data to be processed in both Japan and other countries such as the US. For instance, Clearwell can be deployed on a hosted basis or onsite; e–discovery can be conducted in Japan without having to send data to the US for processing, helping to maintain control over potentially sensitive data; and customers can avail themselves of 24/7 support in–country.

“Japanese enterprises and law firms have a unique and often challenging set of product requirements, which include comprehensive support for double–byte and Japanese encodings across all phases of e–discovery — from processing and early case assessment to review and production,” said Venkat Rangan, co–founder and CTO, Clearwell Systems. “As part of our commitment to the Japanese market, we have worked closely with our Japanese customers and invested significant research and development resources to ensure that the Clearwell E–Discovery Platform is best suited to meet the specific needs of our Japanese customers.”
