MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – September 16, 2010 – Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced that it has been positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the Leaders Quadrant of the 2010 Magic Quadrant for Mobile Data Protection"1 report. Symantec’s submission featured its multi-platform full disk encryption, removable storage encryption and device control solutions for the endpoint. The Magic Quadrant positions vendors based on their ability to execute and completeness of vision.
“Interest in data protection is typically fueled by liability and privacy concerns and protection of intellectual property,” notes the report. “Legislation across the world enacts increasingly tough penalties, as well as requirements for public disclosure in the event of a real or suspected mishandling of personally identifiable information…Gartner believes that the costs to mitigate a data breach are always higher than the cost to invest in preventive measures such as Mobile Data Protection.”
The report was authored by Gartner Vice President and Distinguished Analyst John Girard and Gartner Research Vice President Eric Ouellet. It discusses the overall market for mobile data protection for notebook computers and smaller handheld devices such as PDAs and smartphones.
"With the successful integration of PGP and GuardianEdge, Symantec is delivering on the promise of making data protection more intelligent, policy-driven and easy-to-manage," said Francis deSouza, senior vice president, Enterprise Security Group, Symantec. “Our position as a leader in the Gartner Mobile Data Protection Magic Quadrant is an important milestone as Symantec extends its ability to help customers secure and manage their most critical information. At the same time, customers can rest assured their existing PGP and GuardianEdge encryption solutions will be supported moving forward.”
