Global Village Sees Orders Double After Displaying VeriSign Trust Seal

Leveraging Internet's No. 1 Trust Mark Helps Branding and Marketing Services Firm Boost Traffic, Improve Conversion Rates and Convey Its Authenticity Online

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – November 3, 2010 – Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced that its VeriSign Trust™ Seal has helped Global Village Concerns (GVC), a branding and marketing services corporation, double its orders, while increasing revenue generated for partners by 70 percent. The VeriSign Trust Seal helps businesses of any size leverage the Internet’s No. 1 trust mark to increase search engine traffic, drive up conversion rates and convey a company’s authenticity online.

GVC deployed the VeriSign Trust Seal to establish authenticity with the schools and non-profit organizations that use GVC to support their fundraising campaigns. “Our web-based system makes fundraising much more convenient and generates sustainable recurring revenue, but organizations had to be sure our site was safe before they would feel comfortable working with us,” said George Hampton, CEO of GVC, based in San Diego, Calif.

After displaying the VeriSign Trust Seal on its website, GVC experienced strong growth in several key areas, including a 100 percent increase in the total number of orders placed and a 70 percent boost in the amount paid to its partners.* “The VeriSign seal is a great complement to our marketing efforts,” said Diane Roche, chief marketing officer at GVC. “As we generate more awareness and drive more traffic to our site, the seal provides the extra confidence that customers need before they buy.”

On Wednesday, Nov. 3, the VeriSign Trust Seal can be purchased for $1 for a 1-year subscription (normally a $299 value). The one-day offer is aimed at helping online businesses prepare for the busy holiday season, when millions of consumers and businesses head online to research companies, brands and products. A large percentage of year-end traffic is generated by consumers considering potential holiday purchases or enterprises looking to utilize the remainder of the year’s departmental budgets. In both cases, they look for the kind of visual reassurance that the VeriSign Trust Seal provides. For more information, visit

The VeriSign Trust Seal offers a way to increase confidence, traffic and transactions for sites that don’t require Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption but need to reassure visitors that they have reached a trustworthy site. Those online businesses include content publishers, ad-supported websites, small online businesses, and e-commerce sites whose shopping carts are managed by a third-party service.

The VeriSign Trust Seal pairs the familiar VeriSign checkmark circle with the words “VeriSign Trusted,” enabling websites to display a highly recognized visual element viewed up to 250 million times a day across more than 100,000 websites worldwide. The seal further builds confidence among site visitors by communicating that the site is scanned daily for malware and that it represents an actual business whose identity has been authenticated by Symantec. In addition, VeriSign Trust Seal customers benefit from VeriSign® Seal-in-Search™, in which participating search engines, partners and security tools display the VeriSign Trust Seal next to their link in search results. VeriSign Seal-in-Search gives Trust Seal customers an instant competitive advantage over sites whose search results lack a trust indicator.
