Prior to working for Symantec, what was your first experience with its products?
My first experience with Symantec products was Norton AntiVirus.
How long have you been working for Symantec and how did you join?
I joined Symantec through the company’s 2005 merger with Veritas, where I had worked for eight years. I joined Veritas because I wanted to work on new technology. Veritas was providing volume management support for Windows. I was able to learn about storage management and Microsoft at the same time.
What gives you the most satisfaction in your job?
I enjoy talking with customers and trying to understand their needs, then creating products that help address their pain points. I also like determining product strategy and communicating that to engineers and executives.
What is your most memorable experience with Symantec?
My most memorable experience with Symantec occurred last year at Vision when the company announced that the product I architected and built was shipping.

If you could grant Symantec one wish for its 25th birthday, what would it be?
I would wish for more people to understand what Symantec is today, and how the Data Center Management Group is a key part of making Symantec successful.

What were you likely doing in April 1982 when Symantec was formed?
In 1982, I was a kid running wild in China.
What technological advancement has most changed your life since 1982?
I consider navigation technology a very significant development because it keeps people from getting lost! Of course, email is also a significant technological advancement because it has changed the way we communicate.
World event that has most positively impacted your life during the past 25 years?
An event that changed my life was the end of the Cultural Revolution. Because of this shift, China was able to open up and I have been able to experience other cultures and gain an education in various parts of the world. As a result, my life has changed in a very positive way.
On a more serious note, where do you want to be 25 years from now?
In 25 years, I would like to be living in outer space.
