Recent Activities

Symantec Government Vision 2006 took place July 11 in Washington, D.C., with a keynote by Symantec CTO Dr. Ajei Gopal, plus a cerenomy for the 2006 Government Visionary Awards.

Cyber Terrorism
The Malaysian government appointed Symantec Chairman and CEO John W. Thompson to the International Advisory Board of the International Multilateral Partnership Against Cyber Terrorism (IMPACT). IMPACT was developed by the Malaysian government to help foster the sharing of information on an international basis to combat cyber threats.

 

Innovation America

The National Governors Association recently appointed Symantec CEO and chairman John W. Thompson to its “Innovation America Task Force,” led by Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano and Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty. The task force will focus on developing new initiatives and strategies to strengthen math and science education and the K through twelve levels in the United States.

Symantec European Government Relations

Representatives of Symantec government relations team recently provided testimony on cyber security issues to the House of Lords of the United Kingdom’s Parliament in London. The Q&A session focused mainly on online threats faced by consumers and best practices to follow to protect their personal identity and information on the Web.

Past Activities

Vincent Weafer, senior director, Symantec Security Response, recently testified before the U.S. House of Representatives’ Committee on Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet. The hearing focused on cyber security for the United States’ critical infrastructure, consumers at large, and the impact of today’s cyber threats on the economy overall.
