Dr. Michael Hart is a Researcher at Symantec Research Labs. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stony Brook University in 2011 and his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Tufts University in 2005.
Dr. Hart’s Ph.D. research focused on two issues that commonly arise within the enterprise and Web 2.0: users are either unwilling or are unable to express their privacy preferences. His interdisciplinary research approach employed machine learning, natural language processing, and human–computer interaction to improve usability and provide privacy protection where none previously existed. Specific problems he has worked on include Data Loss Prevention, Wikipedia vandalism, and policy languages for Web 2.0. He has also investigated new ways of dealing with phishing that make it nearly impossible for victims to co-operate with attackers. His research interests include machine learning, natural language processing, human–computer interaction, psychology, linguistics, and statistics.
