Scott Schneider

Scott Schneider is a Researcher at Symantec Research Labs. He received an M.Eng. in Computer Science and a B.S. in Physics from MIT in 2000, after completing his joint thesis, which was a quantum computer simulator. Before joining SRL he worked on a range of industry applications. These included tools for building database-backed websites, software for investment management, IT consulting, and research on genetic algorithms.

Mr. Schneider’s work in SRL includes research on data leakage prevention and signature generation. To make endpoint DLP feasible, he invented a new type of hash table requiring only 1-2 disk seeks per lookup. In implementing automated signature generation, he created Markov models and other heuristics to eliminate bad signatures. Mr. Schneider co-wrote papers on both topics and has submitted six patents.
