First, for protecting enterprise-wide data, the team implemented Veritas NetBackup for centralized and standardized backup and recovery of Microsoft Windows, Linux, and UNIX-based environments. In order to address governmental regulations around security and privacy, the team added NetBackup Media Server Encryption Option. Results include backup of nearly 80 terabytes of data each week and backup success rates in excess of 99 percent. Second, for messaging security, the ISD team relies on Symantec Brightmail Gateway, which filters out approximately 200 gigabytes of incoming spam each month, equating to $36,000 in annual storage savings. Third, the ISD team manage approximately 18,000 client endpoints and over 1,100 data center servers with Altiris Server Management Suite and Altiris Client Management Suite. The benefits are myriad—from a 98 percent first-pass security update process to dramatically shorter provisioning times for new clients and data center servers.
