Installation and Upgrade

Application-level security attacks pose a serious threat to mission critical business operations. Altiris® Application Control Solution™ software helps you manage this risk by allowing you control of software applications in your Altiris Environment.

Prerequisites

The following must be installed before installing Application Control Solution on the Notification Server computer:

Altiris® Notification Server™ 6.0 SP3 (or later).
Rollout of the Application Control Agents requires that the Notification Server 6.0 SP3 Altiris Agent be installed first.

New installation

In the Altiris Console, click the Getting Started tab.

Under Install Solutions, click Install Altiris Solutions from the Solution Center.

On the Available Solutions tab, click Altiris Application Control 6.0 Solution.
In the Solution Update dialog, click Start.

New Features in this Release

Feature Description

1.      Protect Application Data

Implement the principle of least privilege in order to enhance protection of data and functionality from faults (fault tolerance) and malicious behavior.

2.      Apply Security Ratings to Applications

Apply security ratings to withstand future attacks by reducing attack surface. You can reduce the attack surface by reducing the number of applications available to exploitation.

3.      Isolate Applications

Isolate applications to protect against file system and registry corruption or misuse. This is done through integration with Altiris® Software Virtualization Solution™ software.

4.      Protect against Data Theft

You can automate the encryption of documents as Application Control seamlessly integrates with Windows Encrypted File System. If you encrypt documents on a laptop automatically with Application Control they would be safe from theft.

5.      Control Read/Write Activity

Control an application’s ability to read or write to specific file types and network locations using the Deny File Access Application Action.

6.      Prevent Security Attacks

Application Control also allows you to protect managed computers against shatter attacks and monitoring applications such as keyloggers and spyware. To prevent such malicious behavior, use Deny Windows Hooking policies.
