Installation and Upgrade

  1. Open the Altiris Console
  2. Click the Configuration tab.
  3. In the left tab, click Upgrade/Install Additional Solutions
  4. Click the Available Solutions tab.
  5. Click the Segments button
  6. Select Altiris Connector Pack HP Systems Insight Manager
  7. Click Start. This installs the Connector for HP Systems Insight Manager to the Notification Server.

Fixes in this Release

The following issues were resolved in this release.

 Fixed Issue

HP Systems Insight Manager now launches Altiris tools for computers discovered by Altiris

HP Systems Insight Manager* could not launch tools for computers that the Connector had sent to it. This was caused because the Connector was sending values for some fields, such as OSName and OSNameStr, which HP Systems Insight Manager could not interpret. SP2 has HP Systems Insight Manager perform a discovery on all computers that are not “Undeployed”, which fixes the problem by having HP Systems Insight Manager fill in its own values when it performs the discovery.

Configuration buttons are resizing for Japanese language settings

The buttons on the Configuration page now resize sufficiently to display Japanese characters correctly.

Altiris Resource Manager and Windows Client Inventory links fixed

The Windows* Client Inventory link has been changed to point at an HP Client Manager* task rather than to Altiris Resource Manager.

Diagnostics Link fixed

The Windows Client Diagnostics link has been repaired.

Things to Know

This Connecter no longer integrates Deployment Solution and HP Systems Insight Manager

The Altiris Connector for HP Systems Insight Manager no longer enables integration between HP Systems Insight Manager and Altiris® Deployment Solution™. Please contact Altiris customer support for information on integrating directly between Deployment Solution and HP Systems Insight Manager.

Known Issues

The following are unresolved issues and workaround instructions for issues in this release:

 Known Issue

Installing HP Systems Insight Manager on the same computer as Notification Server

Because both HP Systems Insight Manager and SNMP Management (which is installed as a component of the Altiris Connector for HP Systems Insight Manager on Notification Server) have SNMP listeners, port conflicts arise if both are installed on the same computer. Therefore, we recommend that you do not install Notification Server on the same computer as HP Systems Insight Manager. Altiris does not support installations of SNMP Management and HP Systems Insight Manager on the same computer.

Lists of Computers/Events not completely removed from HP SIM on Unregister

The Connector adds several items to HP Systems Insight Manager that are displayed in the “System Lists” pane under the “Event Lists” folders. These items include Undeployed Computers and HP Client Manager Software hardware events. When these items are removed from HP SIM, the top level list “folder” is not removed. This is due to a problem within HP Systems Insight Manager that is scheduled to be fixed for its 4.2 release.

You must log out of HP SIM after making any changes

If you are currently logged in to HP SIM when you register Altiris tools via the Connector Configuration page, any tools that were previously registered will become invalid. You must log out of HP SIM and log back in for the new tools to appear and the old tools to work again.

Wizards may time out

When an integrated Altiris function is run, it needs to verify that all of the computers that were selected in HP SIM are valid computers in Notification Server. This process could take several minutes, which may cause wizards to time out. The workaround is to re-run the function, selecting fewer computers, and run the wizard multiple times to act on all computers.

Connector may send Removed Web Service Event which displays the Attribute: “Dobby is your Humble Servant”

The Connector sends a Removed Web Service Event which may display the attribute: “Dobby is your Humble Servant”. This was scheduled to be fixed in a future release of HP Systems Insight Manager.
