How is audit integration between Inventory Solution and Application Metering accomplished?

Application Metering can integrate with the Inventory Solution audit files (as shown below), but how is this integration done? Which files are involved? When and how is the replication done on the server and clients?
Once you have selected Client based Inventory Solution, the auditpls.ini file from the "Inventory Solution" package will be copied across to the "Application Metering Audit" package, as shown in the following Filemon screen capture:
The file will be kept synchronized on the server during the execution of the NS.Daily scheduled task (which will copy the auditpls.ini file from the "Inventory Solution" package to the "Application Metering Audit" package).
On the Altiris Agent, the file will be synchronized every night (after synchronization has occurred on the server) by running an empty software delivery task (which ensures that the local copy of the auditpls.ini is the same as the version on the server).
