Introduction

Altiris Workflow Solution provides advanced logic and workflow capability to Notification Server and the Altiris solutions. It lets you use pre-built workflow and workflow packs, and also lets you build custom workflow processes.

Installation and Upgrade

The following sections provide information for installing Workflow Solution.

Prerequisites

The prerequisites for installing Workflow Solution are as follows:

• Notification Server 6.0 SP3 R5

The following Altiris products are prerequisites for Workflow Solution. Because of dependencies, they are installed automatically (if not already installed) with Workflow Solution. If you want to build workflows that leverage these products, you need to install licenses that go beyond the 30 day trial. These Altiris products are installed in the following order:

• Asset Management Solution 6.5
• CMDB Solution 6.5 (Connector Solution is installed as part of the CMDB install)
• Helpdesk Solution 6.0 SP5
• Altiris Software Development Kit (ASDK) 1.4
• Altiris Service 6.0

The prerequisites for installing Workflow Server are as follows

• Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0
• Microsoft IIS 5.x and higher

The prerequisites for installing Workflow Designer are as follows

• Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0
• Optional: Microsoft IIS 5.x and higher. An internal Web server is delivered with Workflow Designer that can be used with the debugger.

Where to Download

You can download Altiris Workflow Solution from http://www.altiris.com/Download.aspx. You can also install Altiris Solutions directly from the Solution Center in the Altiris Console. You can download beta versions of Altiris products from http://beta.altiris.com.

New Installation

Installing Workflow Solution from the Solution Center

1. From the Altiris Console, click the Configuration tab.
2. In the left pane, select Configuration > Upgrade/Install Additional Solutions.
3. In the Available Solutions tab, click Solutions.
4. Click Symantec Workflow and follow the on-screen instructions. 

We recommend that you restart IIS after installing Workflow Server.

Manually installing Workflow Solution (without using the Solution Center)

1. Install Notification Server 6.0. (This step is not necessary if you are going to point to another Notification Server as part of the Workflow Server install. You just need a Notification Server for a Workflow Server to authenticate to.)
2. Install the latest Notification Server service packs, including SP3.
3. Download and install Altiris Administrator SDK 1.4 (SDK - Administrator 1.4 from http://www.altiris.com/Download.aspx).
4. Download and install Altiris Service layer (Altiris_Service_6_0.exe from http://www.solutionsam.com/solutions/6_0/
5. Download and install Altiris Workflow Solution (Altiris_WorkflowSolution_6_0.exe) on the server.
6. Either browse to the directory C:\Program Files\Altiris\Workflow\Web\Agent where you installed Workflow Solution and install Workflow Designer, or download and install Altiris Workflow Designer on the workstation (Altiris.Workflow.Designer.Setup.2007_1074.exe).

We recommend that you restart IIS after installing Workflow Server.

Installing Workflow Server

Workflow Solution provides a single installer executable for Workflow Server and Workflow Designer. In the install wizard, you are prompted to choose either the server or the designer and only the selected software is installed.

1. From the computer to which you want to install Workflow Server, open the Altiris Console and click View > Configuration.
2. In the left pane, click Solutions Settings > Workflow > Workflow Download Links.
3. In the right pane, click Click Here to download the Altiris Workflow Server.
4. Install Workflow Server.

Installing Workflow Designer

Workflow Solution provides a single installer executable for Workflow Server and Workflow Designer. In the install wizard, you are prompted to choose either the server or the designer and only the selected software is installed.

1. From the computer to which you want to install Workflow Designer, open the Altiris Console and click View > Configuration.
2. In the left pane, click Solutions Settings > Workflow > Workflow Download Links.
3. In the right pane, click Click Here to download the Altiris Workflow Designer.
4. Install Workflow Designer.
