  • Components that integrate with Deployment Solution.
  • Support for Mobile form in Web Composer.

Installation and Upgrade

The following sections provide information for installing Workflow Solution Advanced.

Hardware Prerequisites

The hardware requirements for Workflow Solution match standard ASP.NET runtime requirements. The following minimum hardware configuration is recommended:

Workflow Designer
  • 2 GHZ processor
  • 1 GB of free disk space
  • 3 GB RAM
Workflow Server
  • Dual processor
  • 4 GB RAM

Software Prerequisites

The prerequisites for installing Workflow Solution Advanced are as follows:

  • Notification Server 6.0 SP3 R5
  • Microsoft .NET Framework* 3.0
  • Altiris Console 6.5

The following Altiris products are prerequisites for Workflow Solution Advanced. Because of dependencies, they are installed automatically (if not already installed) with Workflow Solution Advanced. If you want to build workflows that leverage these products, you need to install licenses that go beyond the 30 day trial. These Altiris products are installed in the following order:

  • Asset Management Solution 6.5
  • CMDB Solution 6.5 (Connector Solution is installed as part of the CMDB install)
  • Helpdesk Solution 6.0 SP5
  • Administrator SDK 1.4
  • Altiris Service 6.0 build 1060 (this must be installed on every Notification Server computer that a workflow connects to in order to retrieve data)

The prerequisites for installing Workflow Server are as follows:

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5
  • Microsoft IIS 5.x and higher

The prerequisites for installing Workflow Designer are as follows:

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5
  • Workflow Server—Gets installed automatically during Workflow Designer installation.
  • Optional: Microsoft IIS 5.x and higher. An internal Web server is delivered with Workflow Designer that can be used with the debugger.
  • Altiris Agent
  • Microsoft SQL Server—Optional unless installing an instance of Process Manager on the same computer.

The prerequisites for installing Process Manager are as follows:

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5
  • Microsoft IIS 5.x and higher
  • Microsoft SQL Server database 2005 Express or Full
  • Workflow Server - Gets installed automatically during Workflow Designer installation.

Install Notes

  • There are two main executables associated with Workflow Solution. The first installs Workflow Solution on the Notification Server. The second (located on the Notification Server computer after Workflow Solution installs) installs Workflow Server, Workflow Designer, and Process Manager onto local computers.
  • On the Notification Server, uninstall Altiris Workflow Solution before installing Workflow Solution Advanced.
  • Set up NS Plugin credentials for the default Notification Server where the Workflow Designer is installed to provide the design time credentials for Altiris integration components.
  • Set the NS Plugin credentials for the default Notification Server on the server hosting Process Manager to supply the license authentication from the Notification Server for the number of concurrent users licensed.
  • Workflow Server licenses can only be assigned to computers where the Altiris Agent is running.
  • To enable Process Manager Viewer for Workflow tasks, you must assign permissions to the user in Admin > Manage Users module. The permission is named User License Level > Process Manager.
  • Set up the Deployment Solution plugin credentials to provide design time credentials for deployment solution integration components.
  • Installation options
    • Full: Workflow Server, Workflow Designer, Workflow Pages, Process Manager, Client Tools, and Sample Themes
    • Typical: Workflow Server, Workflow Designer, Workflow Pages
    • Server: Workflow Server
    • Custom: Select the items to install
  • Servers are assigned roles on the Task Tray Tool. Ensure that the server hosting Process Manager has the role Process Manager checked on the list of server roles.

Where to Download

You can download Altiris Workflow Solution Advanced from http://www.altiris.com/Download.aspx. You can also install Altiris Solutions directly from the Solution Center in the Altiris Console. You can download beta versions of Altiris products from http://beta.altiris.com.

New Installation

Installing Workflow Solution Advanced from the Solution Center

  1. Uninstall any previous version (example 6.0) of Workflow Solution using Add/Remove Programs. Note: After Workflow Solution Advanced 6.5 has been installed, the version reported in the console is still the previous installed version (example 6.0.5). This is done to maintain licensing from the previous release. The new version displays in Workflow Designer.
  2. From the Altiris Console, click the Configuration tab.
  3. In the left pane, select Configuration > Upgrade/Install Additional Solutions.
  4. In the Available Solutions tab, click Solutions.
  5. Click Altiris Workflow Solution and follow the on-screen instructions.

Workflow Solution and Workflow Solution Advanced share the same executable.

We recommend that you restart IIS after installing Workflow Server.

Installing Workflow Server

The Workflow Server is the execution environment for applications you build using Workflow Designer. It publishes processes to Workflow Solution. It is a standard Web server.

Because Notification Server and Workflow Server use different versions of Microsoft .NET Framework, we recommend that you install them on separate computers. You can install Workflow Server and Workflow Designer on the same computer; however, it is not required.

After Workflow Solution is installed, you are provided with a single installer executable for Workflow Server, Workflow Designer, and Process Manager. In the install wizard, Workflow Server is automatically selected. It is a prerequisite for installing both Workflow Designer and Process Manager.

  1. From the computer to which you want to install Workflow Server, open the Altiris Console and click View > Configuration.
  2. In the left pane, click Solutions Settings > Workflow > Workflow Download Links.
  3. In the right pane, click Click Here to download the Altiris Workflow Designer & Server.
  4. Select the computer you want to download Workflow Server on and download the file.
  5. Run Altiris.Workflow.Solution.Advanced.Setup.2007_version number.exe.
  6. On the Choose Components dialog, check the Workflow Solution components you want to install. Workflow Server is a prerequisite for installing these Workflow Solution components. If you only want to install Workflow Server, un-check all of the other options or select Server as the type of install.
  7. On the Server Base URL dialog, enter the IP address or domain name for the server you are installing to.
  8. On the Notification Server Credential Note dialog, select to run the Notification Server Credentials Tool after installation.

Installing Workflow Designer and Process Manager

You use Workflow Designer to design workflows. These workflows are then published by Workflow Designer to Workflow Server.

Because Notification Server and Workflow Designer use different versions of Microsoft .NET Framework, we recommend that you install them on separate computers. Workflow Designer is designed to be installed on client computers. You can install Workflow Designer on the same computer as Workflow Server.

In order to license Workflow Designer or Process Manager, the computer you install them on must be a resource in Notification Server. The most common way to add a computer as a resource is to install the Altiris Agent on it.

After Workflow Solution is installed, you are provided with a single installer executable for Workflow Server, Workflow Designer, and Process Manager. In the install wizard, Workflow Server is automatically selected. It is a prerequisite for installing both Workflow Designer and Process Manager. You can then choose to install either Workflow Designer, Process Manager, or both.

You can install these programs on as many client computers as you need. A license is required if you intend to deploy projects from Workflow Designer.

Process Manager is available for Workflow Solution Advanced users. It can be installed on the same computer as Workflow Designer or on a different computer.

  1. From the computer to which you want to install Workflow Designer and Process Manager, open the Altiris Console and click View > Configuration.
  7. On the Server Base URL dialog, enter the IP address or domain name for the server you are installing to.
  8. If you are installing Process Manager, on the Process Manager Virtual Directory page, enter the name you want to use as the Process Manager virtual directory. An IIS virtual directory is created with this name.
  9. If you are installing Workflow Designer, on the Select Additional Tasks dialog, the Task Tray Application is selected to run after installation. The Task Tray Application is used to set up integration between Workflow Designer, Workflow Server, and Process Manager.
  10. On the Notification Server Credential Note dialog, select to run the Notification Server Credentials Tool after installation.
  11. If you are installing Process Manager, on the Ensemble DB Setup dialog, enter the information you need to either set up a new SQL Server database or update your existing database.
  12. On the Ensemble DB Setup dialog, click Proceed .
  13. On the DB Integration Status click Next to set workflow persistence. This is where workflow data is stored while the process is running. If you are not installing Process Manager, the DB Integration Status dialog does not appear. Only the Workflow Persistence dialog appears.
  14. Click Done.
  15. Verify that the SQL Server database is set up correctly. Doing this now before integrating with Active Directory helps with troubleshooting. You can verify that the database is working before you move onto other things.
  16. If you are installing Process Manager, and you want to set up Active Directory authentication (as opposed to using Process Manager authentication), integrate Process Manager with Active Directory.
