Build number 6.1.0.76
Symantec Workspace Streaming was previously released as Altiris Software Virtualization Solution Professional.
Introduction
Symantec Workspace Streaming is a complete software lifecycle management solution, providing the following:
- Instant delivery of virtual and traditional applications
- Powerful, verifiable license tracking with active enforcement
- Support for a mobile workforce by streaming entire applications for offline use
- Application version control, enabling new version upgrades with a single-click
Features in this Release
The following are features of this release:
Stream MSIs directly into virtual layers
You no longer need to convert MSIs into virtual layers before creating streaming packages. MSIs can now be packaged and installed into a layer dynamically, greatly simplifying virtual application rollout. Leverage your investments in existing MSI applications without additional repackaging effort while still retaining the full runtime installation logic.
Enhanced mobile user provisioning
Applications can be automatically targeted for offline use when streamed to laptops. This improves user experience while reducing management overhead for the IT staff to support mobile workers.
Distribute the application’s startup blocks (typically 10-15%) via portable storage device (USB), network share or any other software distribution mechanism. Users stream the application after launch, providing additional options to distribute and access streamed applications with the IT admin retaining full control of licensing and usage at all times. Performance enhancements have been made to the package upload process, MSI package distribution, and in several other components. The initial streaming performance has been improved by 25-30% for snapshot applications. Over 200% improvement in the number of sessions supported by the streaming server. More number of users can now be served with fewer servers. Application specific template files can now be to used to further simplify the packaging process. Templates contain settings specific for each application and are portable for easy sharing between users. The following databases are no longer supported in 6.1: All versions of MySQL, Oracle 8, 9, and Microsoft SQL Server Complete installation instructions are included x Complete upgrade instructions are included x The following are unresolved issues in this release.
