This document contains information about the issues that were resolved in the 7.0 SP1 Hot Fix 1.

Installation Notes

After installing this hot fix, note that the updated Altiris Agent is not pushed out automatically. This is by design.

To deploy the updated agent:

  1. In the Symantec Management Console, on the Settings menu, click Agents/Plug-ins > Altiris Agent.
  2. In the left pane, in the Altiris Agent > Windows folder, click Altiris Agent for Windows - Upgrade.
  3. On the Altiris Agent for Windows - Upgrade page, enable the policy.
You need to wait for a while, as it will take some time for the Altiris Agent to roll out.
  4. Run the Package Server Refresh schedule on any package servers.

Network Discovery

No DRAC and RAC Telnet App launches using SNMP+WMI+IPMI CP

Discover and Inventory the server using SNMP+WMI+IPMI enabled CP's. Right-click on the server and find there is no App Launches for DRAC and RAC Telnet. This issue has been addressed so the launches are available.

Launching Multiple Tasks simultaneously causes SEHException and task to fail

The problem existed because multiple threads were trying to initialize/load PPA simultaneously. This is now adjusted to properly handle mutliple discoveries at one time.

The Organizational View page and the Organizational Group page no longer requires a security role to be selected when viewing membership
You can now choose to have no security role selected. A new item, None, has been added to the Role drop-down list and is selected by default. This lets you avoid filtering the resources by a security role for cases where you do not belong to a role (i.e. user-based security has been applied rather than role-based) and ensures that all the resources to which you have access are shown.

Previously, when viewing the resource membership of an organizational view or an organizational group, the Role drop-down list defaulted to the first role that the user was a member of.

This caused the following two issues:

  • If the user was not a member of any of the available roles (i.e. user-based security had been applied rather than role-based), no resources were displayed, even though the user had Read access to the organizational view or groups.
  • If the user was a member of two or more roles, the default role selected may have been a lesser role. For example, if the user was a member of both Guest and Supervisor roles, the Guest role was selected (alphabetically) by default. In this scenario, only a subset of the available resources was shown. The user needed to change the role selection to the Supervisor role to see all the resources.
The Resource Event purging process has been modified to improve performance
Changes were made to a stored procedure to improve the performance of the nightly purging maintenance schedule. This significantly reduces the likelihood of cascading errors, and possible deadlocks, occuring during the schedule (which is run once per day). Previously, in some circumstances, the stored procedure (and hence the purging maintenance schedule) took a long time to run, and occasional deadlocks occured.
The security checking process has been modified to prevent occasional failures due to unusual exceptions
The security checks that determine whether to use item security or resource security have been modified to avoid exceptions being thrown when checking security. Previously, there were some circumstances (typically in a high-load environment) where the internal data structure was being corrupted. This corruption caused security checks to fail with unusual exceptions.
Internet Explorer now functions reliably when you repeatedly open and close multiple browser windows when using drill-down reports
Modifications to the browser-server communication functionality have been made to eliminate the most likely causes of this issue. Previously, if you drilled down to another report launched in a new browser window, closed the window, and then refreshed the source report, and repeated those steps a few times, Internet Explorer would hang.
