Introduction

Application-level security attack, such as file system corruption, registry corruption, spyware, and keylogging, pose a serious threat to mission critical business operations. Altiris® Application Control Solution™ software helps you manage this risk by allowing you control of software applications in your Altiris environment. The 6.1 release of the solution includes a range of new filters, policy refinements, and whitelisting.

Features in this Release

This service pack addresses a number of known issues with Application Control Solution 6.1.

Client machines appear to crash when the Application Control Service starts
After setting up Application Control policies, client computers begin to crash shortly when the Application Control Service starts.

Item Actions (Right Click menu options) related to Security Rating classification are missing

In version 6.0 on the Manage Applications page, or any other report that lists discovered applications from file Inventory, you could right-click and have the option to select White List, Black List or Gray List under the context menu for the setting the security rating for that application.

This option appears to be missing in 6.1.

Cannot uninstall the Application Control Solution agent

This problem occurs when trying to uninstall the Application Control Solution agent from a managed system.

The ACS agent will not completely uninstall by either using add remove programs or using the uninstall policy. The uninstall policy removes the ACS service and the sub agent, and exits with an exit code 0; however, it does not remove ACS files and still shows up in Add Remove programs. 

Any attempt to uninstall using add remove programs (first attempt or after the uninstall policy runs), produces the following error:

ERROR 1920. SERVICE 'ALTIRISACSVC' (ALTIRISACSVC) FAILED TO START. VERIFY THAT YOU HAVE SUFFICIENT PRIVILEGES TO START SYSTEM SERVICES.

Unable to create a deny ActiveX Installer action

Application Control Solution should be able to run in a more passive mode, to allow Internet Browsers to run with administrative rights and only deny specific ActiveX component from being installed. ActiveX components cannot be added to the deny list within an ActiveX Installer action.

Unable to load Manage Applications page - SQL Timeout

The log reports the following error with the following description:
Unexpected exception encountered while running a query.Report "Summary of Win32 Executables" Summary of Win32 Executables. ( Unhandled exception.  Type=Altiris.NS.StandardItems.Query.AeXSqlException Msg=Sql error in query. Error: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: Timeout expired.  The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.Sql CommandText:
