Description
Monitor Solution helps you ensure your server and network up-time and availability and ultimately reduce the costs of network management in your organization.
You can do the following with Monitor Solution:
- Identify the health of your environment by collecting detailed data from servers, applications, and network devices.
- Analyze trends and isolate recurring issues by collecting comprehensive real-time and historical performance data.
- Pinpoint problems, define their cause, and take automated actions to resolve them.

Features of this Release
The following are features of this release:
Support and integration with Symantec Management Platform 7.0
Monitor Solution 7.0 is built on Symantec Management Platform 7.0 and utilizes many of its new features.
Improved usability
Monitor Solution 7.0 includes numerous interface and usage enhancements. For example, a Monitoring and Alerting portal page provides a single location for viewing the status and health of monitored devices, and the Monitor Policy configuration wizard gives you a simplified and intuitive way to create and configure Monitor Policies.
New centralized Event Console
A central Event Console consolidates alerts and events into a single view regardless of the source. The Event Console is a window into the health of your environment. It provides a consolidated view of all fault and performance events. The Event Console spans multiple alert sources, including Monitor Solution agent-based monitoring, Monitor Solution agentless polling, SNMP, asynchronous trapping, AMT, ASF IPMI, and other out-of-band alerts. You can use alerts as triggers for automation or remediation.
Comprehensive device monitoring with agent-based and agentless monitoring
Comprehensive device monitoring is accomplished through a combination of agent-based monitoring and agentless monitoring. A plug-in to the Altiris Agent, called the Monitor Agent, gathers detailed data about your servers. Agentless monitoring replaces the functionality previously provided by Site Monitor. Agentless monitoring lets you gain perspective into your network and lets you monitor true uptime and availability of the devices and applications on your network.
Actions are replaced with Task Server tasks
Monitor Solution automation is much more powerful in its ability to remediate because it supports the reciprocal usage of Symantec Management Platform Task Server tasks.
Improved Historical Performance Viewer
The new Historical Performance Viewer gives a new experience when you analyze a computer over a period of time. It allows for detailed analysis of the exact performance of the computer to help you identify problems.
Improved data management
Data management has vastly improved to allow greater control of how Monitor Solution handles the data that it gathers. You can create a custom configuration for the filtering, summarization, rolling up, and purging of Monitor Solution data. The data that you choose to store can be as granular or as broad as you require. For example, in Monitor Solution 7.0 you can specify to keep highly detailed and granular data for the current month and to keep less detailed summarized data for previous months. This control helps you to eliminate unnecessary database growth.
Maintenance windows support
Monitor Solution 7.0 has extended the maintenance windows functionality that is introduced in Symantec Management Platform 7.0. Monitor Solution extends the control to the IT Administrators. You can control if you want to be notified of events and alerts during a maintenance window, or you can also classify the alerts that you receive as "informational only." You can also control whether or not Monitor Solution performs automation or remediation tasks during a maintenance window.
On-demand metric polling
Monitor Solution includes a new Task Server task type called Poll Metric On Demand. In addition to polling metric data on a schedule, you can also poll metrics automatically in response to an alert. When the Poll Metric On Demand task is run, a monitored resource’s metric is prioritized to run as soon as possible so that you can get the most accurate and up-to-date health overview of your monitored systems very quickly. Metric polling on demand is supported on both agent-based and agentless metrics.
