The Symantec Management Platform is a group of foundation services that are leveraged by IT-related solutions. Solutions integrate with the platform and take advantage of the shared services, such as security, reporting, communications, package deployment, the Configuration Management Database (CMDB), and more. These release notes are grouped into the following categories:

Requirements

The recommended system requirements vary depending on the size of the environment. The size of the environment also affects how you configure the platform. See Minimum System Requirements for Symantec Management Platform 7.0.Windows Server 2000 was end-of-life with Symantec Management Platform 7.0 SP4. It is no longer supported for platform installations. Windows Server 2003 or later is required for the platform, and Windows XP or later is required for desktops.

When upgrading from Windows 2000 to a supported OS, upgrade the Windows 2000 server to Windows 2003 or higher before upgrading to Symantec Management Platform 7.0 SP5. This ensures that the Symantec Management Agent upgrade policy will run. Installation

You use Symantec Installation Manager to install Symantec Management Platform and all of the products that run on the platform. You also use Symantec Installation Manager to install updates, apply licenses, and repair installations. Migration

When you upgrade from Notification Server 6.x to Symantec Management Platform 7.0, you can migrate most of the Notification Server 6.x data. Symantec Installation Manager manages the installation and uses the Altiris Notification Server Migration Wizard to manage the data migration.

You can perform an upgrade on the same computer where Notification Server 6.x is installed or on a different computer. If you perform the upgrade on the Notification Server 6.x computer, Symantec Installation Manager runs the Altiris Notification Server Migration Wizard to migrate the 6.x data. Near the beginning of the upgrade process, it runs the wizard to export the 6.x data. Near the end of the upgrade process, it runs the wizard to import the 6.x data.

If you perform the upgrade on a different computer, you first install the Symantec Management Platform 7.0 products on that computer. You then install and run the migration wizard on the 6.x computer to export the data. After you copy the data to the 7.0 computer, you run the migration wizard on the 7.0 computer to import the data. Symantec Management Agent (previously known as Altiris Agent)

When migrating from any previous version of Symantec Management Platform 7.0 to Symantec Management Platform 7.0 SP5, the endpoint clients are not automatically upgraded to the Symantec Management Platform 7.0 SP5 Symantec Management Agent. You must turn on the agent upgrade policy to perform this upgrade. The Symantec Management Agent upgrade does not include upgrading solution agents. After the Symantec Management Platform 7.0 SP5 Symantec Management Agent is upgraded, the solution agents, or plug-ins, that were installed and working with the previous version of Symantec Management Platform 7.0 Symantec Management Agent may no longer be active and, if not, must also be upgraded via the included upgrade policies in order to work again with Symantec Management Platform 7.0 SP5 Symantec Management Agent. If you uninstall any previous version of Symantec Management Platform 7.0 before installing Symantec Management Platform 7.0 SP5, you need to reinstall the Symantec Management Agent and all solution agents.
