Using Microsoft Office 2010 client configuration tools with Workspace Virtualization

The Microsoft Office 2010 client configuration tools provide tools to configure and test volume license editions of Office 2010: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee624350.aspx

These tools use WMI classes to license office. If you add the tools to a virtual software layer, during the installation the WMI classes are registered in the CIM database by the WMI service. This causes the registration to occur in the base and not in the virtual software layer. Since these changes are made in the CIM database they are unable to be virtualized (the CIM database file itself cannot be virtualized because it is shared by multiple applications on the system).

To use these tools with Workspace Virtualization, you must run the "mofcomp.exe OSPPWMI.mof" command on each client after the Office 2010 layer is imported. See Office 2010 client configuration tools documentation for additional information on this command.

If you want to remove the changes made by this command when the layer is deactivated or removed, complete the following:

  1. Start wbemtest
  2. Click Connect.
  3. Enter namespace "root\cimv2" and click Connect.
  4. Click enum classes.
  5. Leave superclass name blank.
  6. Click OK.
  7. For each of (OfficeSoftwareProtectionService, OfficeSoftwareProtectionProduct, OfficeSoftwareProtectionTokenActivationLicense)
    Highlight in the list and click Delete.
  8. Click Close.
  9. Click Connect.
  10. Enter namespace "root\comv2\ms_409"
  11. Click Connect.
  12. Click enum classes.
  13. Leave superclass name blank.
  14. Click OK.
  15. For each of (OfficeSoftwareProtectionService, OfficeSoftwareProtectionProduct, OfficeSoftwareProtectionTokenActivationLicense)
    Highlight in the list and click Delete.
  16. Click Close.
  17. Click Exit.
