Integration Features

The following list outlines each integration feature:

  • Data collection -  the supported product supplies its event data and any appropriate inventory information to Protection Center so that the data can be included in reports. Protection Center also collects data from integrated products and aggregates the data to create cross-product reports. Users can view aggregated data in summary reports and drill down to detailed reports for information about a specific endpoint or a specific security issue.
  • User interface - console integration that provides the Protection Center users a single view to manage their supported product. The users can navigate seamlessly to the supported product's console from within the Protection Center console.  The Protection Center console displays the supported product's console embedded within the HTML iFrame.
  • Single sign-on - the Protection Center single sign-on (SSO) feature automatically logs  you in to the supported product  when you access its embedded console.
  • Process automation - Protection Center lets you initiate the Protection Center workflows that include your supported product's tasks.

The following table describes the Symantec products that support Protection Center.

Altiris IT Analytics from Symantec
  • Supported version: 7.1

The Protection Center business analytics functionality is provided by Altiris IT Analytics from Symantec. IT Analytics provides multi-dimensional analysis and robust graphical reporting, and allows Protection Center users to explore data on their own, without advanced knowledge of databases or third-party reporting tools.

The integration of Altiris IT Analytics from Symantec with Protection Center enables you to manage your Altiris IT Analytics from Symantec more effectively and seamlessly.


Symantec offers a seven-day trial for IT Analytics, after which you need to purchase an IT Analytics account license to use the functionality in Protection Center.

Symantec Control Compliance Suite
  • Supported versions: 10.5.0.0 and later

Symantec Control Compliance Suite is an automated solution that manages all aspects of IT risk and compliance at lower levels of cost and complexity. Control Compliance Suite offers out-of-the-box content on multiple industry regulations, automated assessment of technical and procedural controls, Web-based dashboard reporting, and integration with other Symantec security solutions.

The integration of Control Compliance Suite with Protection Center enables you to manage your supported product more effectively and seamlessly.  You can define risk and develop IT policies, assess infrastructure and processes, create customized reports and dashboards, and remediate deficiencies.

Symantec Critical System Protection
  • Supported versions: 5.2.8 and later

Symantec Critical System Protection  is a flexible, multi-layered security solution that detects abnormal system activities. Symantec Critical System Protection prevents and blocks incoming and outgoing threats. Critical System Protection also hardens systems, enforcing behavior-based security policies on endpoints.

The integration of Critical System Protection with Protection Center provides Protection Center users with proactive, host-based security against zero-day attacks. It also enables protection against buffer overflow and memory-based attacks and helps to maintain compliance with security policies by providing granular control over programs and data.

Symantec Data Loss Prevention Suite

Symantec Data Loss Prevention safeguards the confidential information that resides on the endpoint computers in your organization. You can use Symantec Data Loss Prevention to monitor and block sensitive information from being moved over a network and to prevent information from being transferred onto removable media. Symantec Data Loss Prevention provides preconfigured security policies remediation response rules, and reporting capabilities. You can adjust these policies, responses, and reports to suit your company's needs, using a centralized management console.

The integration of Symantec Data Loss Prevention Suite  with Protection Center enables you to manage your supported product more effectively and seamlessly.

Symantec DeepSight Early Warning Services

The integration of Symantec DeepSight with Protection Center enables you to access the Symantec DeepSight Web portal through the Protection Center console.

Symantec Endpoint Protection

Symantec Endpoint Protection protects laptops, desktops, Mac computers, and servers in your network against malware. It combines virus protection with advanced threat protection to proactively secure your physical systems and virtual systems against known and unknown threats. Symantec Endpoint Protection protects against malware such as viruses, worms, Trojan horses, spyware, and adware. It provides protection against sophisticated attacks that evade traditional security measures such as rootkits, zero-day attacks, and spyware that mutates.

The integration of Symantec Endpoint Protection  with Protection Center enables you to manage the supported product within the Protection Center console, view the supported product's data in Protection Center reports and perform the appropriate actions.

Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange

  • Supported versions: 6.5.5.0 and later (64-bit installations only)

Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange provides real-time protection for email against viruses, spam, spyware, phishing, and other attacks while enforcing content policies on Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, 2007, and 2010.

To simplify integrating large numbers of servers, Protection Center represents all of the Mail Security servers in your organization as a single Mail Security product. When you enable Mail Security in Protection Center, you let Protection Center integrate any number of Mail Security servers. You can then select the appropriate Mail Security servers and install the Mail Security plug-in to complete the integration. 

The integration of Mail Security with Protection Center enables you to manage the supported product within the Protection Center console and view the supported product's data in the Protection Center reports. These reports give you detailed information about the status of your email security.

Symantec Messaging Gateway

  • Supported versions: 9.5.0.0 and later

Symantec Messaging Gateway is a gateway-based email security solution. It delivers inbound and outbound messaging security, real-time antispam and antivirus protection, advanced content filtering, and data loss prevention in a single platform.

The integration of Messaging Gateway with Protection Center enables you to manage the supported product within the Protection Center console and view the supported product's data in the Protection Center reports.

The integration of Symantec Messaging Gateway with Protection Center also enables you to do the following:

  • Use a single source for monitoring the email statistics that Protection Center continually collects from Symantec Messaging Gateway and other integrated email solutions. Protection Center summarizes the statistics data and presents it in a convenient tabular and graphical format.
  • See a current view of the security status of your network. Protection Center updates email statistics every three minutes to keep this information current.
  • Remotely manage Symantec Messaging Gateway through an embedded console in Protection Center.
    Stay apprised of relevant security threats. Protection Center  aggregates and displays the most critical and high-priority information about local security in the Protection Center dashboard. The dashboard also warns you about  potential malware attacks. The information about potential malware attacks comes from Symantec’s Global Intelligence Network with which Protection Center is integrated.

Symantec Web Gateway

  • Supported versions: 5.0.2 and later

Symantec Web Gateway is an innovative Web security gateway appliance that protects organizations against Web threats, such as malicious URLs, spyware, viruses, and other types of malware. Web Gateway provides controls for Web content and Internet applications.

Through the integration of Web Gateway with Protection Center, Protection Center users can access the Web Gateway console and perform the following tasks:

  • Block selected Internet applications by category.
  • Block selected Web sites.
  • Display reports.
  • Configure alerts.
  • Quarantine infected computers.
  • Integrate with Symantec Data Loss Prevention.
  • Inspect SSL-encrypted Internet traffic.

PGP Universal Server

  • Supported versions: 3.2.0.1 and later

PGP Universal Server is a management console that can manage any combination of PGP encryption applications. It automatically creates and maintains a Self-Managing Security Architecture (SMSA) by monitoring authenticated users and their email traffic. PGP Universal Server encrypts, decrypts, signs, and verifies messages automatically, providing strong security through policies that you control.

The integration of PGP Universal Server with Protection Center enables you to manage the supported product within the Protection Center console and  view the supported product's data in the Protection Center reports.

The PGP Universal Server applications are:

  • Symantec PGP Universal Server 3.2
  • Symantec PGP Key Management Server 3.2
  • Symantec Drive Encryption with Universal Server 1.2
  • Symantec PGP Universal Server and Whole Disk Encryption for Servers 10.2

Symantec Validation and ID Protection Service
