Question
What are the best recommended settings for Setup Capture to achieve optimal results for a capture?

Answer
After selecting Settings on the Welcome page of the Setup Capture you will be brought to the General tab of Setup Capture Settings. Here the recommended changes are:

  • Uncheck the Enhance File and Registry Key Association.
  •  Change Capture Methodology to Use Snapshot comparison only.
  • Change the Advertising Setting to Retain Registry information as is.

Best practice is to always do a capture on a clean machine.

It is also not advised to capture over a network. Necessary files may be missed during the transfer of the application and specific files that are needed for the application may be placed into the temp folder and removed after the capture. This could result in a compile error after the WSI is created.

It is not advised to capture directly on the Server. Different applications are being run by different users at the same time, causing the capture to pick up unwanted activity.
