Answer

Note:  It is assumed that the RMS is currently installed on the Notification Server and that the designated new RMS server has the Altiris Agent installed.

  1. On the Notification Server, stop the Altiris Agent and Altiris Monitor Agent services

  2. Change the following registry values:

         From:
         HKLM\SOFTWARE\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Plugin Objects\Agents\Altiris Monitor Agent RMS

         To:
         HKLM\SOFTWARE\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Plugin Objects\Agents\Altiris Monitor Agent

         From:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Plugin Objects\Agents\Altiris Monitor Agent\Agent Name:  Altiris Monitor Agent RMS

         To:
         HKLM\SOFTWARE\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Plugin Objects\Agents\Altiris Monitor Agent\Agent Name:  Altiris Monitor Agent

  3. Start the Altiris Agent and Altiris Monitor Agent services

  4. In the Symantec Management Console, access Settings > Notification Server > Resource Membership Update

  5. Under Delta Update Schedule, choose Run and wait for it to complete

  6. Access Manage > Filters > Monitor Filters > Local computers with Remote Monitoring Server Installed and confirm there are no members

  7. Right-click Monitor Filters and choose New > Filter

  8. Name the new filter something appropriate (e.g. "Off-box RMS servername"), choose a Resource Inclusion and select the designated server, then choose Save changes

  9. Access Settings > All Settings > Monitoring and Alerting > Credential Settings > Credential Manager x86 Package Install

  10. Choose Apply to > Quick apply, select the newly created filter, choose Apply, then Save Changes

Note:  Do not remove the added filter from this policy afterwards as this will break RMS functionality

  11. On the designated new RMS server, update the Altiris Agent Settings

  12. Wait a few minutes then confirm the following registry key exists:

         HKLM\SOFTWARE\Altiris\CredentialManager\Creds

  13. Access Start > Run, enter \\nsServerName\NSCap\bin\Win32\X86\PPA Agent Package and run the newest installer listed (e.g. "altiris_pluggableprotocols_agent_7_0_kb45011_sp2_x86.msi"), follow the steps and complete the installation wizard

  14. If the Monitor Agent is not currently installed, access Start > Run, enter "\\nsServerName\NSCap\bin\Win32\X86\Monitor Solution Package\Altiris_MonitorAgentPackage_7_0_x86.exe" /s /RMS /ARP

Wait a few minutes for the installation to complete then confirm that "Altiris Monitor Agent RMS" is listed in the Installed Agents section of the Altiris Agent Settings

If the Monitor Agent is already installed, stop the Altiris Agent and Altiris Monitor Agent services, change the following registry keys:

         From:
         HKLM\SOFTWARE\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Plugin Objects\Agents\Altiris Monitor Agent

         To:
         HKLM\SOFTWARE\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Plugin Objects\Agents\Altiris Monitor Agent RMS

         From:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Plugin Objects\Agents\Altiris Monitor Agent RMS\Agent Name:  Altiris Monitor Agent

         To:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Plugin Objects\Agents\Altiris Monitor Agent RMS\Agent Name:  Altiris Monitor Agent RMS

Start the Altiris Agent and Altiris Monitor Agent services

  15. In the Symantec Management Console, access Settings > Notification Server > Resource Membership Update

  16. Under Delta Update Schedule, choose Run and wait for it to complete

  17. On the new RMS server, update the Altiris Agent Settings
