Does Inventory for Macintosh dfferentiate between OS X Client and OS X Server?
Answer
Inventory for Macintosh will include “Server” in the OS Name for OS X Server. Otherwise, it lists "Mac OS X" only. This value is found in both the inv_AeX_AC_Identification and inv_mac_OS_Operating_System tables. This data is viewable in Resource Manager and via a SQL query. The version and build numbers for Mac OS X and Mac OS X Server appear to be identical. The only differentiating factor is the inclusion of "Server" in the OS Name field.
Inventory for Windows uses the "OS Type" column to identify the various types of the Windows operating system. Inventory for Macintosh does not use that column.
