Question
Is there a Macro Editor available for Wise Products?

Answer
Yes, there is a macro editor in Wise for Windows Installer Professional, Wise Installation Studio, and the Windows Installer Editor in Wise Package Studio.

To access it, launch the Windows Installer Editor and select Edit > Macros from the toolbar menu.

  • The Macro Editor is very similar to the Microsoft Visual Basic Editor. If you are familiar with Visual Basic Script, it will be easy to create the macros that you need to help you build customized installations.
  • The Macro Editor is a way to automate many of the common tasks you perform in Wise. You can cause scripts to be executed on certain wise events, as well as create Macros that run manually.
  • The Macro Editor comes with a default macro file in the templates folder of Wise for Windows Installer. When this is open, you can see that the examples here are commented out, which means that you can view them but not run them.
  • A macro file has the extension of .wbs. Macros are added to the file indicated in the pathname field at the bottom of the macro editing box. You cannot change the name of this file from macro editor. To change the name of your macro file, you need to use Windows Explorer.

You can select to run manually or on a Wise for Windows Installer Event.

Note: You should be familiar with macros and comfortable with Visual Basic to use this feature.
