Installing Standard Agents silently

You can install the Standard Agent silently.

See Methods that you can use to deploy the Standard Agent.

You can install the Standard Agent on the following operating systems:

See About the Standard Agent.

Before you install the Standard Agent, verify that the host meets all requirements.

See Host requirements for the Standard Agent.

To install Standard Agents silently (UNIX)

  1. Log on to the host as root or as a user with an ID equal to zero (UID=0).

  2. Do one of the following:

    If you have the installer

    Extract the install files to the local host or mount the product disc.

    See Mounting the product disc on an AIX host

    See Mounting the product disc on an HP-UX host

    See Mounting the product disc on a Linux host

    See Mounting the product disc on a Solaris host

    If you do not have the installer

    Download the installer and extract the install files to the local host.

    See Downloading CommandCentral installation files.

  3. Change to the following directory:

    installer_location/MH/platform/silent

    Where:

    installer_location

    is one of the following:

    • The directory in which you extracted the tar file

    • The location in which the DVD is mounted

    platform

    is one of the following:

    • aix

    • hpux

    • linux_i686

    • sol_sparc

  4. Open the sample response file (ccs.response) in a text editor.

  5. Edit the $CPI::CFG{RF_HALCHM} variable by specifying the IP address or name of the Management Server to which you want the Standard Agents to report.

  6. (Optional) Edit any of the other configuration variables.

  7. Change to the following directory:

    installer_location/MH/platform

    Where:

    installer_location

    is one of the following:

    • The directory in which you extracted the tar file

    • The location in which the DVD is mounted

    platform

    is one of the following:

    • aix

    • hpux

    • linux_i686

    • sol_sparc

  8. Type one of the following commands:

    To install the Standard Agent without configuring it

    ./installccsmh -responsefile response_file -installonly mode host_names [-agentpwd password]

    To install and configure the Standard Agents

    ./installccsmh -responsefile response_file mode host_names [-agentpwd password]

    Where:

    response_file

    is the name and path to the response file.

    mode

    is the mode of communication that you want to use to install the Standard Agent on remote hosts. type -rsh or -ssh

    If you only want to install the Standard Agent on the local host, omit this option.

    host_names

    is the host name, IP address, or fully-qualified host name of the hosts on which you want to install the Standard Agent. Separate the host names with spaces.

    -agentpwd

    is an optional flag that is required if you changed the default password for the Management Server's Agent principal account.

    The installation completes when you see the following message:

    Startup completed successfully on all systems.

  9. If you encountered any errors, troubleshoot your installation.

    See Troubleshooting your CommandCentral installation.

  10. If you chose the install only option, configure the Standard Agent to report to a Management Server.

    See Configuring Standard Agents silently.

  11. (Optional) Verify that the installation and configuration completed successfully.

    See Verifying the installation or upgrade of CommandCentral components.

To install Standard Agents silently (Windows)

  1. Log on to the host as a user with administrator-level privileges.

  2. Do one of the following:

    If you have the installer

    Extract the install files to the local host or insert the product disc into your DVD-ROM drive.

    If you do not have the installer

    Download the installer and extract the install files to the local host.

    See Downloading CommandCentral installation files.

  3. Open the following directory:

    installer_location\MH\win\packages

    where installer_location is one of the following:

    • The directory in which you unzipped the zip file

    • The location of your DVD-ROM drive

  4. Copy the CCStorage Managed Host.msi to a local or network directory.

  5. In a command prompt, change to the directory where you copied the file in step 4.

  6. To install the Standard Agent, type the following command:

    msiexec.exe /LV* "log_file_name" /qn /I "msi_directory\CCStorage Managed Host.msi" INSTALLDIR="C:\Program Files\VERITAS" ALLUSERS=1 INSTALLLEVEL=1 REBOOT=ReallySuppress DATADIR="C:\Program Files\VERITAS\" PBXCONFIGURECS=FALSE

  7. To configure the Standard Agent, type the following command:

    "C:\Program Files\VERITAS\CommandCentral Storage\Tools\ConfigureVCC.exe" Fresh "management_server_ip_address_or_name" "Agent_password"

    Where Agent_password specifies the password for the Management Server's Agent principal account. This parameter is required only if you changed the password for the Agent principal account.

  8. Installation completes. If you encountered any errors, troubleshoot your installation.

  9. (Optional) Verify that the installation and configuration completed successfully.
