Creating a hot backup using Backup Exec System Recovery

If a cold or a warm backup is not possible in your organization, the next available option for backing up non-VSS-aware databases is a hot (or online) recovery point.

Backup Exec System Recovery takes a “crash consistent” recovery point. Such a recovery point is equivalent to the state of a system that was running when the power failed. A database that can recover from this type of failure can be recovered from a “crash consistent” recovery point.

To create a hot backup

  • Use Backup Exec System Recovery to create a recovery point without the need to stop or restart the database.

Backup Exec System Recovery instantaneously snaps a “virtual volume recovery point” from which the recovery point is created.
