About preparing Windows computers for remote deployment

You may need to change some of the settings for the operating system on the client computers to which you want to deploy client software.

Windows XP in a workgroup

Disable simple file sharing. Simple file sharing may prevent deployment of client software.

Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, and Windows 7

  • Disable the File Sharing Wizard.

  • Enable network discovery by using the Network and Sharing Center.

  • Verify that your account has elevated user rights.

Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, and Windows 7 in an Active Directory domain

The account used to deploy client software must be a domain administrator, and have elevated privileges on the client computer.
