Problem
Users may want to install Software Virtualization Solution on computers that are not managed through Notification Server but do not know what their key is. This scenario may happen when users want to create "clean machines" that are not connected to their server.

Environment
Software Virtualization Solution 2.0.1368

Cause
The license key can be hard to find in the Notification Server console, and users may want to use it for standalone installs.

Resolution
This is how is should be but currently (as of 24 May 2006) is not. We are trying to get this fixed.

The license key is now included in a text file that is sent out when the user purchases Software Virtualization Solution.  If you purchased Software Virtualization Solution before this change happened, you can find your key by following the next pointer.

The following are workarounds:

  1. Users can find their key by opening up their Notification Sever console, clicking the Configuration tab and drilling down to Solution Settings > Software Management > Software Virtualization > Windows > Software Virtualization Agent Rollout > Software Virtualization Agent Package. Once on that screen, click on the Programs tab and look at the Command line information. At the end of that box it shows PRODUCT_KEY= followed by your 20-digit Software Virtualization Solution license.
  2. If you do not want to install the Notification Server solution in order to get the client keys, you can go to http://www.altiris.com/download.aspx.
    1. Once there, input your email address, select Software Virtualization Solution 2.0 from the list, and click Submit
    2. Accept the EULA.
    3. Download Altiris Software Virtualization Solution 2.0 Integrated Installation. This download contains a text file with a client license key. This license is good for as many nodes as your purchased, even if you decide to not use Notification Server to deploy the agent.
