Steps to set up RMS on remote Windows Server?

Answer

Installation of Symantec Management Agent

  1. Install Symantec Management Agent on Windows Server 2003 SP2 x86

Make sure that “NS Server Name” has correct address and communicates with appropriate Notification Server.

 

      Installation of Credential Manager

  1. Go to Symantec Management Console à open “Settings” à expand “Monitoring and Alerting” folder à expand “Credential Settings” folder à open “Credential Manager x86 Package Install” policy à specify remote Windows Server 2003 SP2 x86 into resource target à Save Changes.

 

Receive policy on remote server à Make sure that Credential Manager has been successfully installed (Go to regedit on remote server à \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Altiris\CredentialManager\Keys\{} à check that ServerURL string file has correct NS address.

    3.     Install PPA Agent

           Go to NSCap location on NS computer, using command on remote server \\<notification server address>\NSCap\bin\Win32\X86\PPA Agent

Package\altiris_pluggableprotocols_agent_7_0_x86.msi à download latest version of PPA Agent msi on remote server and install it.

 

To make sure, that PPA Agent has been successfully installed, go to regedit and verify that PPA folder exists inà

\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Altiris\PluggableProtocols

     4.     Remote Monitoring Server installation (RMS)

           Go to NSCap location on NS computer, using command on remote server

\\<notification server address>\NSCap\bin\Win32\X86\Monitor Solution Package\Altiris_MonitorAgentPackage_7_0_x86.exe à download Altiris_MonitorAgentPackage_7_0_x86.exe on remote server and perform installation of RMS via command line in cmd Altiris_MonitorAgentPackage_7_0_x86.exe /RMS

 

To make sure, that RMS has been successfully installed, open Symantec Management Agent settings à check content of installed plugins. Make sure that RMS is presented there
