Question
How do I use the NET.exe command in Windows and DOS? NET.exe is not available in Linux.

Answer
The NET.exe command is used mainly to map and to unmap network drives. These commands work in DOS and in Windows*. Here are examples of the most common commands:

This command to map a network sharepoint (the F):
NET USE F: \\server\sharepoint

This command unmaps a network sharepoint (the F):
NET USE F: /D

This command is used to view all network resources:
NET VIEW

These commands can be used in Windows to start and stop services:

NET START <SERVICENAME>
NET STOP <SERVICENAME>

This command allows you to send messages to other computers on the network if the MESSENGER service is running:
NET SEND <computername> "message"
