About Active Directory integration

You can configure Symantec Web Gateway to integrate with Active Directory. Active Directory is a Microsoft product that stores user account information and provides authentication on Windows networks. Active Directory is Microsoft's implementation of LDAP. Integration with Active Directory provides the following benefits on Symantec Web Gateway:

Users are displayed in reports

User names are displayed in reports.

User-based policies

You can create policies based on Active Directory user names and group categories.

You can configure Active Directory integration using Symantec's Domain Controller Interface software (DCInterface) or by using NTLM.

See Comparison of Active Directory integration with a domain controller and NTLM.

See Steps to configure Active Directory integration with a domain controller.

See Steps to configure Active Directory integration with NTLM.

You can use a Central Intelligence Unit to configure Active Directory integration on managed appliances. With a Central Intelligence Unit, the communication with Active Directory occurs with the managed appliances, not with the Central Intelligence Unit.
