Question
After Recovery Solution Migration, the linked server is missing. How do I re-create the Recovery Solution Linked Server?

Answer

You can simply use osql.exe or sqlcmd.exe (for SQL 2005) SQL utilities to add linked servers. There are two system stored procedures for this: sp_addlinkedserver and sp_addlinkedsrvlogin.

Here is a sample for using these:

sqlcmd.exe -s 'server_name' -q "EXEC sp_addlinkedserver 'linked_server_to_add' "
sqlcmd.exe -s 'server_name' -q "EXEC sp_addlinkedsrvlogin 'linked_server', 'false', 'Domain\Users', 'access_user_name', 'access_user_password' "

You can also use the SQL Query Analyzer (in Microsoft SQL Management Studio) to implement that. In the following example (should be executed on the SQL Server which is serving the Notification Server database)

USE master
GO
EXEC sp_addlinkedserver 'Put_SQL_Server_for_RS_here', 'SQL Server'
EXEC sp_addlinkedsrvlogin @rmtsrvname='Put_SQL_Server_for_RS_here', @useself='false', @rmtuser='AeXRSDatabaseUser', @rmtpassword='put_password_here'
GO
