How to manually reset licensing status on Mail Security for Domino 8.x

In some cases SMSDOM  may show incorrect information from the licenses installed on the system. This can be due to the existence of multiple license files in the filesystem, left from previous installations or which became corrupted for other environmental reasons.

This article outlines how to manually clean up all licenses on your system and re-apply them to SMSDOM successfully.

Note: the steps below apply to Domino servers where only SMSDOM is installed and requires licenses to work.

 

Windows 

  1. Ensure you have a copy of valid product and content licenses for SMSDOM ready on your computer
  2. Stop SMSDOM by typing "tell sav quit" on the Domino console
  3. Stop PAS by typing "tell npas quit" on the Domino console
  4. From an explorer window, browse to the licenses folder (%PROGRAMFILES%\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Licenses)
  5. Make a backup copy of all files in the folder to another folder on your computer
  6. Delete all .slf files in the folder
  7. Start SMSDOM by typing "load nntask" on the Domino console
  8. Confirm that the product is unlicensed. The following lines should be visible on the Domino console:
      SMSDOM: No valid product license exists. Your server is currently UNPROTECTED.
      SMSDOM: No valid content license exists. Your definitions files are no longer being updated.
      SMSDOM: No valid premium antispam license exists.
      <<<< NO VALID SMSDOM PRODUCT LICENSE EXISTS. YOUR SERVER IS UNPROTECTED! >>>>
  9. Enter the SMSDOM settings and click on the Licensing tab, then click "Install License"
  10. Install the license file(s) you need (product, content, premium antispam) and confirm the successful installation by looking at the messages in the Domino console
  11. Start PAS by typing "load npas" on the Domino console
  12. Enter the SMSDOM settings and click on the Antispam tab, than Premium Antispam tab and check if the Premium Antispam is enabled for the Server

 

Linux/Solaris

 

  1. Ensure you have a copy of valid product and content licenses for SMSDOM ready on your computer
  2. Stop SMSDOM by typing "tell sav quit" on the Domino console
  3. Stop PAS by typing "tell npas quit" on the Domino console
  4. From an explorer window, browse to the licenses folder (/opt/Symantec/Licenses)
  5. Make a backup copy of all files in the folder to another folder on your computer
  6. Delete all .slf files in the folder
  7. Start SMSDOM by typing "load nntask" on the Domino console
  8. Confirm that the product is unlicensed. The following lines should be visible on the Domino console:
      SMSDOM: No valid product license exists. Your server is currently UNPROTECTED.
