This article describes how to perform some of the more advanced tasks with PGP Desktop 9.0.x for Macintosh


This document describes some of the more advanced functionality of PGP Disks.

 

Note: During PGP Disk creation, the user selects the size of the PGP Disk. Once it has been created, it is not possible to change the size of the PGP Disk. A PGP Disk must be unmounted in order to re-encrypt it.


 

How to set the Mount Location on a PGP Disk

 

  1. Open PGP Desktop by clicking on the PGP Desktop icon in the system menu bar, then scroll down and click Open PGP Desktop. If the PGP Desktop icon is not visible in the system menu then start PGP Desktop by clicking on the application (default location is the Applications folder).
  2. Under the PGP Disk item on the left pane, select the PGP Disk for which you want to change the mount location.
  3. Click Set Mount Location in the Disk Properties window.
  4. Select the new mount location. If it is not the Desktop, browse to the new location and click Open.
  5. Click OK.

 

Re-encrypting a PGP Disk

 

  1. Open PGP Desktop by clicking on the PGP Desktop icon in the system menu bar, then scroll down and click Open PGP Desktop. If the PGP Desktop icon is not visible in the system menu then start PGP Desktop by clicking on the application (default location is the Applications folder).
  2. Under the PGP Disk item on the left pane, select the PGP Disk for which you re-encrypt.
  3. Make sure that the disk is unmounted.
  4. If you wish to select a new encryption algorithm, use the arrows to the right of Cipher in the main Disk Properties window to select a new cipher.
  5. Click Re-Encrypt.
  6. After reading the warning, click Re-Encrypt again.
  7. You are prompted to enter the PGP Disk administrator passphrase. Enter the passphrase, and click OK.

 

How to back-up a PGP Disk

 

  1. Unmount the PGP Disk volume.
  2. Copy the unmounted encrypted file to a CD, DVD, tape, or removable cartridge just as you would any other file.

 

How to Delete a PGP Disk

 

  1. Open PGP Desktop by clicking on the PGP Desktop icon in the system menu bar, then scroll down and click Open PGP Desktop. If the PGP Desktop icon is not visible in the system menu then start PGP Desktop by clicking on the application (default location is the Applications folder).
  2. Under the PGP Disk item on the left pane, select the PGP Disk you want to remove.
  3. Ctrl+click (or right click) the PGP Disk you want to remove.
  4. Scroll down and click Clear (for PGP Desktop 9.0.x) or Remove Item (for PGP Desktop 9.5.x). The PGP Disk is removed.
