This NetBackup policy parameter applies to the snapshot method. NetBackup uses the snapshot method to back up virtual machines.
Client name selection specifies the type of name by which NetBackup recognizes a virtual machine.
The network host name for the virtual machine. (This option is the default.) NetBackup obtains the host name by means of a reverse lookup on the virtual machine's IP address. If no host name can be found, the IP address is used as the host name.
The name of the virtual machine as displayed in the VMware interface. For example, you provide a display name to the virtual machine when the virtual machine is created. Note the following:
| |||
The unique ID assigned to the virtual machine when the virtual machine was created.
The VMware "DNS Name" of the virtual machine. In vSphere Client, this name appears on the virtual machine's Summary tab.
|
A change to the Client Name Selection value can affect backups, depending on how the policy is configured on the Clients tab. Refer to the following topics for more information:
See Client Name Selection parameter and manual selection of virtual machines.
See Effect of Client name selection parameter on Selection column in Test Query results.
