User is using the IM Manager self registration page http://<servername>/immanager/public/employee.asp.  At the top of the page the following error message is shown:

Directory Information not in use

Before using the steps below search the IM Manager articles and determine if an existing known issue is causing the problem: Click Here to search IM Manager articles.

1. Save the attachment imemployeetest.asp to the directory <installation directory>\immanager\imlogweb\public.
2. Save the files imeployeeactiontest.asp and imcommontest.asp to the directory <installation directory>\immanager\imlogweb\common.
3. Have the user open the following URL in a web browser: http://<servername>/immanager/public/imemployeetest.asp.
4. The page displays information like this:

Item User Active Directory Distinguished Name
Item Description Distinguished Name of Browser User. This is obtained by using an IM Manager COM object to call the Windows API call GetUserNameEx. This call is made under the authentication context of the user
Item Value CN=Benjamin Lurie,OU=Support Engineers,DC=blackops-simm,DC=com

Item User Active Directory Object GUID
Item Description Active Directory Object GUID of Browser User. This is obtained by using an IM Manager COM object to call the Windows API call GetUserNameEx. This call is made under the authentication context of the user
Item Value {1352873b-dcb2-4f79-beae-df715a43a9a3}

Item Logon User
Item Description IIS Server variable 'LOGON_USER'. See the following microsoft article for details: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms524602%28v=vs.90%29.aspx
Item Value BLACKOPS-SIMM\benjamin_lurie

If all of the values above are correct then click Submit to check more variables.

These values are either obtained from Active Directory for from the IIS authentication mechanism built-into IIS.  If any of these values are wrong then start troubleshooting here.

5. If the values are correct then click the Submit button to continue.  The page shows information like this:

Item Unique ID from Directory
Item Description This is the unique ID in the LDAP server IM Manager is configured with. In most cases it is Active Directory and will be Object ID. In the case of an LDAP server other than Active Directory it will be something else. In the case of non-AD the product connects to AD using the object GUID (from the previous page) and gets the 'real unique ID'. This 'real id' will be looked up in the LDAPMirror table.

Real Unqiue ID = objectGUID

Found unique ID in the LDAPMirror table = {1352873b-dcb2-4f79-beae-df715a43a9a3}

Item Display Name
Item Description This is the display name of the user from the LDAP server. This is in the LDAPMirror table.
Item Value Benjamin Lurie

 The first value is obtained from the IM Manager database is possible.  If not then it attempts to go to Active Directory.  This should only occur if IM Manager has been configured to integrate with a non-Active Directory source as the primary LDAP source.

The second value is obtained form the IM Manager database.

NOTE:  If there are any errors on the page obtain the line numbers and error code from the web page.  Open the appropriate ASP page in an editor and find the specified line number.  Look at the function used at that line number and search Google for errors for that function.
