SMP 7.0 MR4 Point Fixes Rollup Version 11 Information Notes

Introduction

This rollup contains point fixes that were not part of the regular SMP 7.0 MR4 release cycle. For Symantec Management Platform 7.0 MR4 release notes, see knowledgebase article DOC4041. This rollup includes a list of fixes for SMP, SMF, IRM, Task Server, SWM, Patch, Inventory and Asset Solutions.
The current version for this Rollup that can be provided to customers is MR4 Point Fixes Rollup version 11.

Note: This document has what was originally added in version 6, 9 and 10 just as a historical reference.

The Altiris Agent (Symantec Management Agent) in this rollup is version 7.0.8950.1950

New Package Server components that are updated with the rollup are version of 7.0.8950.1950.

Server side components are a blind revision of the MR4 code and should have a version of 7.0.8800


Installation

Prerequisites

You need to have installed Symantec Management Platform 7.0 MR4. This Rollup was built against SMP 7.0 MR4.
Note: In order to install SMP 7.0 MR4 Rollup v11, you need to install
SMP 7.0 MR4 Rollup v9 and v10 first.

Altiris Agent: 7.0.8800.1800 or higher

Task Server: 7.0.8800 or higher
Server: SMP 7.0 MR4 (7.0.8800)
Package Server: 7.0.8800 or higher
Solutions: ITMS MR4

 

Installation Steps

Part 1: Installing SMP 7.0 MR4 Rollup v9

  1. Launch SIM 7.0.819 or current version (Start>All Programs>Symantec>Symantec Installation Manager)
  2. Download the attached XML (symantec_7_0_mr4_rollup.pl.xml) and place it on your SMP Server
  3. Change the Product Listing within SIM to use the downloaded symantec_7_0_mr4_rollup.pl.xml file.
  4. Click on install and update option
  5. Choose the Symantec Platform MR4 rollup build 7.0.8900

 

Part 2: Installing SMP 7.0 MR4 Rollup v10

  1. Download the attached “MR4_Pointfixes_Rollup_v10_12122011.zip”. Please contact Support to obtain the file.
  2. Extract the files on your Symantec Management Platform (SMP) server.
  3. Open CMD shell (cmd.exe) as Administrator and run Install.cmd to install point fix files.   The original assemblies will be backed up in the same folder where the 'Install.cmd' is located.
    Note: This installation RESTARTS Altiris Services and Web Services.

 

 Part 3: Installing SMP 7.0 MR4 Rollup v11

Platform and each solution have own installation files. SMP 7.0 MR4 Rollup v11 is not cumulative with previous rollup releases and requires sequential upgrades from SMP 7.0 MR4 through rollups v9 and v10. It is recommended that solution rollups will be installed atop of SMP 7.0 MR4 Rollup v11. Solution rollups can be applied in random order.

SMP 7.0 MR4 Rollup v11 can be installed using following steps: 

  1. Retrieve files from the attached “MR4_Pointfixes_Rollup_v11_06182012.zip” archive to the NS hard drive. Rollup files should not be kept within ITMS installation directory. Please contact Support to obtain the file.
  2. Open CMD shell as administrator and run install.cmd
  3. Old binaries will be automatically backuped to the same location where install.cmd is.
  4. Data about rollup will be placed into registry.

 

 Part 4: Installing Solutions fixes for SMP 7.0 MR4 Rollup v11

Solution rollups can be installed using following steps:

  1. Retrieve files from the attached “MR4_Pointfixes_Rollup_v11_Solutions_06182012.zip” archive to the NS hard drive.Please contact Support to obtain a copy of the file.
  2. Locate installMSI.cmd script and run it. If solution consists of multiple sub-solutions then each component should be reinstalled via its own installation script. For example, to install rollup for Patch Management solution it is required to run corresponding installMSI script for Core, Linux and Windows.

 

 Part 5: Enabling Agent policies

  1. Clone and enable the "Symantec Management Agent for Windows - Upgrade" policy to upgrade the Agent to version 7.0.8950.1950.
  2. Clone and enable the "Windows Package Server Upgrade" policy under ‘Settings -> Notification Server -> Site Server Settings -> Package Service -> Advanced -> Windows’ to upgrade package server to version 7.0.8950.1950
  1. Clone and enable “Task Service upgrade” policy to upgrade task server.

 

Note: The tested scenario to upgrade the Altiris Agent (Symantec Management Agent) to the Rollup version is the client machines should be at MR4 version (7.0.8800) or at MR4 Rollup version 6 (7.0.8814). If not, you will to use the AexAgentUtil.exe /reinstall switch if the Agent doesn't upgrade properly.

The MR4 Point Fixes Rollup needs to be applied in each Notification Server in a Hierarchy. It is recommended upgrading child servers first and then parent NS in the Hierarchy. Please refer to HOWTO21657.


Rollback Steps
Note: Only Platform rollup can be rolled back.

  1. Run ‘Restore.cmd’. Make sure that you run the uninstall script from Administrator elevated cmd.exe.
  2. Assemblies will be restored from the 'Backup' folder (Make sure that Backup folder exist in the same location as uninstall.cmd).

Note: This installation RESTARTS Altiris Services and Web Services.
