Problem
When booting a computer to WinPE CD-Rom and running a job, when the job is complete a "Remove boot media." dialog box comes up that asks the user to "Please remove the boot media and click OK." Even on a customized WinPE CD which will mount the ISO as a virtual X: drive and therefore no CD-Rom media is in the CD tray. Therefore this prompt is breaking automation and requires a tech to revisit the computer to answer OK.

Environment
DS 6.x

Cause

Even if a RAM drive is used the startnet.cmd still thinks a CD is used.

Resolution
WinPE 1.6:

If the default ISO has been modified, as part of the modification, change a line in the startnet.cmd batch file that will prevent the prompt from occurring.

While still in the Boot Disk Creator, if you examine the startnet.cmd, you will find a line at about line 57, which reads:
     set ALTIRIS_BOOTDEVICE=$$ALTIRIS_BOOTDEVICE$$

When Boot Disk Creator makes a boot CD ISO, it changes $$ALTIRIS_BOOTDEVICE$$ to be CDROM, resulting in this:
     set ALTIRIS_BOOTDEVICE=CDROM

If you change this in Boot Disk Creator before creating the CD ISO, to something like:

set ALTIRIS_BOOTDEVICE=VIRTUAL_CDROM

Then the AClient will no longer prompt.  You do not have to use the value VIRTUAL_CDROM - just change it to say anything except CDROM (or USB), and AClient will no longer prompt.

WinPE 2.1:

Add the following line to the bottom of the userenv.bat file:

     set ALTIRIS_BOOTDEVICE=anything

Windows 7 environment:

This can also occur when imaging Windows 7 with a WinPE 2.1 boot disk. To correct the issue use Ghost instead of Rdeploy.
